New series artist Salvador Larroca arrives—as Apocalypse begins! Sinister has been resurrected, the pieces are moving into place, and everything is starting to come together. Can the X-Men prevent the coming of Apocalypse? The story arc that’s been building for a year kicks off here!
Meh. Surviving that double assault was pretty much the only thing I found cool about Apocalypse (as far as his AoA incarnation is concerned).
Of course you didn't get his powers. You're only human like the rest of us here.
But really though. I can relate to that, as his abilities did seem rather confusing at first... and he also appears to have at least some powers that haven't been fully defined.
In a What If...? story - Set during the X-Cutioner's Song, Apocalypse fails to cure Xavier of the techno virus. The X-Men believe Apocalypse killed him on purpose, and attack. Apocalypse kills them all single-handedly. He then goes to the moon to confront Stryfe, defeating him and the Dark Riders, including another team of X-Men (pretty much X-Force and X-Factor, plus a few X-Men who weren't present at the original slaughter).
I like how Apocalypse pissed off the X-Men though (saying Xavier and his dream was weak and all that), and how he had complete control over Arch-Angel's wings (so long Iceman >.> )...
And that's it for Stryfe huh? Seeing as how there was a big fight between him and Apocalypse earlier in the story (though Apoc. was severely weakened at the time, which he barely managed to escape), I was expecting Stryfe to provide more of a challenge for Apoc. in the end, but I guess even he proved to be no match for Apocalypse when he's not incredibly weakened, so eh, it works.
How can all that be canon though if it only happened in a "What if... ?" story? *stupid question*
Funny you should say that, in a What If issue that involves Archangel remaining a Horseman of Apocalypse, Archangel kills everybody, including the strong. And, well, Apocalypse didn't like it...
Meh. Although his triumph over Cable there was definitely cool in itself, I personally didn't like how Cable played the role of the "unnerved good guy whose all talk and underestimates his enemies" in that part of the story. I guess I'm just used to Cable knowing better than that, especially when he's up against his mortal enemy Apocalypse, but I digress.
What Cable said: You can't win Apocalypse... You can't kill ideas... You can't... destroy... DREAMS!
Sure he can.
