Now, what in the **** did the livestock do to deserve that? It also doesn't sound very Jewish to me, it'd be more profitable to just take the animals with you, after you're done killing the men, women, children and infants.
I also find the killing children and infants part odd too, slavery is acceptable in the bible, those kids could be made into slaves and.
Extending this response upward through several previous comments...YOU'RE RIGHT. God really did order the deaths of thousands of people -- whole nations, in fact. Sometimes He sent the armies of Israel to wipe out an enemy. Other times He did the work Himself. And yes, when God said "wipe them out", He often included women, children and babies in the target group. During the Old Testament period (when most of this stuff happened) God had only one group of chosen people upon whom He put His favor -- the Israelites. The pagan nations in and around Canaan were frequently punished by God for their aggressions toward Israel and their insults toward Yahweh.
Under the new covenant in Christ's blood [1 Corinthians 11:25], God's grace is no longer limited to the nation of Israel [Galatians 3:28], and God's holy dwelling (the Temple) is no longer located in a specific geography. Rather, the Bible says that Christians ARE the temple of God [2 Corinthians 6:16] since the Holy Spirit lives in each Christian [1 Corinthians 6:19-20]. We no longer take up arms to defend the faith [Ephesians 6:12], but fight from our knees against the powers of Satan and his demons [Ephesians 6:18].
That said, no one should be foolish enough to challenge the authority of Almighty God. The Lord wiped out whole nations for insulting His name. The same fate awaits those whose habitual disobedience keeps them laughing in the face of Jesus -- the only one who can save them [John 3:36; Romans 2:5; Revelation 20:15].
It should be noted that God's grace is eventually extended to innocent individuals who were wiped out without mercy. I would quote a Bible reference but I don't know if there is one...I'd have to go into Mormon doctrine.
gods a vengeful douchebag. just watching what happens when he doesnt get his way is pitiful. you wont worship me? fine ill kill you and your entire family. he's like a baby. a spoiled child. this is why retards shouldnt be allowed to control things(im lookin at you George W. Bush)
Flawed and revisionist Christian writings. Trying to reinterpret standard Jewish dogma into their own twisted dogma.
At least, Muhammad went back to basics and acknowledge a single, indivisible god, albeit w/ a different name, instead of the craptacular Trinitarian concept espoused Christians. Jesus is but a man and a prophet of Allah like Muhammad but his REAL teachings were CHANGED by his followers and in the Last Judgement, Jesus himself will testify AGAINST Christians for being easily mislead.
They are separate disciplines of the same field; an expert in one discipline may not necessarily be an expert in another discipline, but he can speak with authority regarding the field both disciplines share.
Thomas L. Thompson is not a mainstream archaeologist; that is why his book The Bible in History: How Writers Create a Past continues to be widely used as an anthropology and archaeology text book.
Gabriel Barkay is a Christian Broadcasting Network affiliate, and Aidon Dodson is a contributor to “Doman of Man: A New Theory of Ancient History,” a website, the purpose of which is to reconcile archaeology with The Bible.
These are your mainstream archaeologists? Once again, you have been proved to be a tremendous liar.
