Dude, Purple Rain is a sellout, excellent but sellout

WTF? Are you even aware of the definition of what "sell out" is? If anything, he sold in with that album. That album didn't betray any of the values or styles (that Prince is known for) for cash. In fact, it's the perfect example of Prince's style in the 80's.
He traded in all he was doing before that album for a rock & Roll album and after the album he makes totally different music.
Anyway I always preferred his 1985-88 period so maybe it's just me.

WTF? Have you heardPurple Rain? If you think Purple Rain is a "rock n roll" album, you obviously haven't heard it. At all. It's a Synth-based, Pop rock album that is totally in the vein of it's predecessor 1999. He wasn't trading anything. Little Red Corvette sounds like it could be on that album. The only underlying difference being that 1999 took on my "dance" tones. Yes, he totally ditched the sound when he created Around The World In A Day, just like he did with For You and Prince for Dirty Mind and Controversy and then ditched them for 1999 and Purple Rain. It's what brilliant musicians do, change and evolve their sound, if you can't understand that, then I have no idea how you appreciate Prince, because he does that all the time.
I never said it was wrong. At first I just offered my opinion on which Prince album I thought was better. Then he, as you rightly agreed, went on to say that it was "sell out" and "rock n roll" when those terms can't even be applied to that album.
heh, I can't believe this thread is still here; a sticky even!
Change the title, or stop the nonsense!
