It's one of the best JRPGs today.. great storyline and well-developed characters.
You'll have to play the original 2 games as well as BBS (I think this is part of the main games, as it is the prequel to KH1) to understand the full storyline.

I was put off more by the way the game plays, though. I mean, it's Final Fantasy meets Disney. I should love that, but I cannot get into the series no matter how I try.
Nothing. The plot isn't bad but it certainly isn't nothing to write home about. It takes interesting enough ideas like the keyblade into it, but the over all plot of a kid trying to save his friends is nothing special.
The characters are okay as well. Just cliche. Again, nothing special.
Actually looking at it, nothing about KH is special, aside from the insane concept of mixing Disney with Final Fantasy.
But hell, I love it. By the way AsbestosFlaygon, you really went digging for that quote. Why? o.o
I'm a KH fan, but f*ck the overly confusing for the sake of being confusing storyline. It's easily understood by anyone, though not giving a shit about its story because it's become overly stupid is a huge factor. I love the gameplay myself and revisiting Disney worlds is the only reason I'm with the franchise.
With the exception of the V Cast game, all games released so far (not counting remakes or Final Mixes...as far as plot is concerned, they are basically the same game as the original version) are part of the main series.
BBS, KH, KH:CoM, KH 358/2, KH Coded, & KH2 are all part of the series. Of those, I've only played KH, KH:CoM (both versions) & KH2. I'm planning to buy & play BBS, as I recently got a PSP for a game I wanted to play, so might as well play BBS.
Since 358/2 is on DS, and I don't particularly like hand-held consoles, (never mind the DS) I won't be playing it. Same goes for KH 3D.
Will just read the wiki, or watch a playthrough. Meh.
Also, that post is more than 2 months old. Better yet, it's 159 pages old.
Damn, man. Damn.
Pretty much.
Though I think the theme song in the main game menu screen is great. Is that theme present in BBS?

It's slightly better than 2 which isn't saying much. I don't like how it pokes fun at itself over and over again, the plot is lame once again, and it pales in comparison to part 1. I still like the fable series but these games are so overhyped it's not even funny. Peter moleneux won't ever fool me again.
BBS is pretty good in my opinion. Load times suck though. And the story can get a little confusing, especially if you play it with Aqua. Best order to play it in would be Terra, Ven, Aqua.
358/2 is good if you want a handheld version of KH1. Gameplay is very similar. And far more refreshing than Re:Com. Leveling up sucks though.
I think so. It also opens to Simple and Clean....one thing KH has a bad habit of doing is recycling music like a bastard. >_>
Will do so. Are they all quite different from each other in terms of gameplay?
Hmm, if it's similar to KH1 in gameplay, that's one reason I would play it.
I don't like playing on hand-helds though and avoid doing so when I can, so I'll play it on an emulator in the future if it's possible.
It opens to Simple & Clean??? Damn. >__>
Still, the music is generally pretty good (and I liked most of KH1's music), so I don't worry much about the recycling.

Yeah, but not to the point that it's hard to adjust to. Terra is built for strength, Ven is for speed, and Aqua is a magic person. These traits vary among them and it's best to mix it up to find nice combos.
It's similar as in it doesn't feel as complex as 2 or BBS. There is a customize section where you equip spells and such. I played Megaman Battle Network so I knew how to make it work without much effort. It's identical, but you may not have played BN so it wouldn't help.
Yeah. They also use some recycled footage in the opening(though, still pretty).
And yeah, not much about it is spectacular. I liked the story of the first game the most, and that was before I think it got real bad. It's like every single spin off game adds new characters to the series and Sora, Riku and Kairi get less and less significant. By the time it's done hardly anyone will really give a shit about them.
I miss the Heartless being the biggest and baddest threat in the universe though. They still have the makings, but they keep making new damn enemies for every game. >_>
Birth By Sleep also reminds me so much of what I know about Star Wars.
