Yes, I know that an opinion is subjective. But the reasons you think that Closer is a controversial song aren't really good enough to give that kind of accolade. Wow, it was in your local paper, that really doesn't mean anything at all. It has the word f*ck in it and it concerns sex, there are far more controversial songs out there, mainstream and non mainstream.
To name a few and to get this topic moving along: F*ck The Police by NWA, Sister by Prince and Rape Me by Nirvana.

Laughable because your inaccurate evaluation of my personality and the situation is funny. You try to insult me with ridiculous claims, why should I mind them?
You gave an idiotic opinion and now try to dodge the obvious point by trying to make fun of me. Good for you, you are still an idiot for thinking Closer could in any way be considered as one of the most controversial songs.
And opinions might be subjective. But they can still be stupid, wrong and even insane. If it is my opinion that the moon is made out of cheese (analogous to believing Closer is one of the most controversial songs ever), then that may be my subjective opinion. But I am still wrong...and a highly uneducated fool.
As for arrogance, I might not have made it clear, you are arrogant, while being a moron, that's what I find annoying. If you made intelligent, valid points and would not randomly attack me personally with pseudo psychological evaluations, I am sure I wouldn't have a problem with it. As it is, you did it twice, for no reason whatsoever, so, go suck some cock, *******.
Took you long enough to come up with that, I was waiting like a day.
First of all, your comparison to my thinking that 'Closer' is controversial, is lame. The moon? Come on, dear Bardcock. Everyone in the planet knows the moon is not made out of cheese, saying something like that about a physical object is much different than a song. A song's meaning can be very different depending on what a certain individual gets out of it. You find my opinion idiotic, I do not. I find what you are saying to be moronic, witless, gay, and above all, stupid. You do not. It's subjective, so of course you are going to disagree with what I'm saying because you disliked me before I even posted in this thread due to my making fun of you before. You were biased subconsciously. I know you dislike me, and probably think I'm a raging idiot, but it's fun to pick on you because you get insulted rather easily. I'm sure many of you musical "elitists" such as yourself (don't cream yourself because I called you that) thought: "Hey, this guy mentioned 'Closer' as a controversial song, let's pick apart his opinion because we are so cool and oh so "elite", we've heard so many more". I've heard many songs that were more controversial than 'Closer', yes, but since NIN got discussed here, I find it to be worth said. When I first posted in this thread, it was the first thing that came to mind
Slob. Slob. Slob. Why would God waste good flesh on creating a worthless specimen such as yourself? Oh dear, Bardcock. It's ok, don't take what I say personally. It's all in good fun. You served your purpose in entertaining me. Going to put me in your stupid most hated list?
'Don't Fear the Reaper' is another. Now I'm sure you along with a bunch of other dipshits are going to say "No, it's not". I'm not even going to explain myself on this one, lest I have a conniption.

You were waiting from 11:02 pm my time to 11:29 am the next day. Gosh...wonder what I might have done in that time.
And I did not equate your thoughts on a song with the substance the moon is made of. If anything I equated the actual controversy which the song created (a thing that is in no way up to subjective whims) to what it is made of. Both are things that can factually be known. It's like saying the Velvet Underground are the best selling band of all time...it's wrong. Can be proven. Closer is not one of the top controversial songs. That really should be the end of this story.
Few other points:
* I didn't dislike you before we got into this idiotic debate
* Even if I would think of myself as an elitist (which I don't, I am not particularly knowledgeable about music on a whole), it certainly has nothing to do with talking about the controversy a certain song has.
* You took it personal that people disagreed (justified) with your mention of Closer and went on a little rage trying to get personal
* It is NOT subjective
As for the "stupid most hated list"...yeah, probably, in time. You seem bent on making yourself out to be fool, a trait I am not particularly fond of.
And AC, you are 6 months older than me, you must have mad skills to be my father.
Eminem's "Criminal" from The Marshall Mathers LP was really contraversial with homosexuals.
He created a firestorm with these lyrics:
My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge,
That'll stab you in the head,
whether you're a *** or lez,
Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest,
Pants or dress - hate ****? The answer's "Yes",
Homophobic? Nah, you're just heterophobic,
Starin' at my jeans, watchin' my genitals bulgin' (Ooh!)
That's my mother****in' balls, you better let go of 'em,
They belong in my scrotum, you'll never get hold of em!
But then the Elton John thing happened with him and that seemingly squashed things.

I think everyone in this thread has mentioned songs that were controversial, but my pick would have to be some songs by Prince. "This Charming Man" by the Smiths, perhaps? How about F*ck the Police, Louie Louie, Closer, and White Rabbit?
Well i really meant that that probably one of the most controversial songs that i've heard..
What do you think. Would you say that that song was controversial? I think so.
He wasn't just (only) doing it to piss people off. It also, indirectly, raised awareness with the homosexual bigotry that exists here in the U.S., in a way, with how prevalent yet sublet, or in this case blatant, it is in our society today.
Not that i'm gay, but anti-homosexuality is a big problem, yet a solvable one (maybe), in our society.
Like i believe if 2 gay people want to get married, who gives a shi*t. Let them do them and i'll do me..
