None of the anti-aircraft guns seem to be making any serious impact as the massive starship continues to pour its firepower into the city, clearing a section of it away as it descends.
Wait a minute... it's clearing a landing site! On the edge of the city where Svidrigailov and Friste crash-landed...

Trax dips the starfreighter down into a steep dive, coming down on the forests near the landing battle cruiser. He fires a volley into the forest, torching the trees and engulfing them in flame... but you sense that he did not kill the Pirate Lord or the Dark Jedi.
The pair come tumbling out of the forest as they move toward the battle cruiser. Trax tries a strafing run, but the starfreighter takes a hit from the Claw's cannons and is shunted off as you watch Friste reach the cruiser.
"They've escaped," Cabas says. "There is no..."
On the ground, Friste suddenly stops as Svidrigailov struggles to catch up with him. He turns and, in one swift move, whisks his lightsaber through the Pirate Lord's neck. The decapitated body stands for a moment, then drops sideways. Friste takes the oversized pistol off of the body, then proceeds onto the cruiser.

"Friste wants to make sure everyone knows who is in charge now."
"We must stop this Master. There has to be a way."
Xavier will look over the ship. The ships hulls won't be affected by the Anti-aircraft weapons but perhaps the engines will be?
"What if we attack their engines surely that would stop them from escaping?"

Friste vanishes aboard the cruiser, which immediately begins to take off even as Trax sends a blaster volley after it. They impact against the armored section of the engines, doing nothing.
"Nothing is getting through that hull," Trax reports. "They're heading off now..."
"The failure is ours," Cabas says. "We should have been able to apprehend him. He has grown in skill and power since we last saw him... and now he is beyond helping."

We could care less about saving him, we don't care about him at all. He has slighted us though for that his head must be ours. WE MUST KILL HIM!
Xavier looks down then to his Master. It is true he couldn't care about helping Friste.
"Master, he may be getting away now. On the same note he is probably at his weakest right now. He has lost many men, and his flagship. He is too dangerous to be left alone in charge of the pirates."
"Must keep going and stop him if not now then soon."

The star cruiser known as the Ravaging Claw, braving the thumping blows from the anti-aircraft batteries, ascends into the skies of Varloucant. It has stopped firing now; all power is being redirected to the engines.
"Can we pursue?" Cabas asks.
"Not enough fuel," Trax says, "and the ship's damaged."
"Then I believe this mission is over," Cabas says. "We have liberated Loola from her captivity and brought an end to Svidrigailov's slavery circuit. I doubt there is much that Friste can salvage from this debacle, even though his treachery has granted him leadership. He will try leading through violence and fear, and it will not avail him. It worked for Svidrigailov, but Svidrigailov was never a Jedi, was he? No, Friste is no longer a threat. If the Council wants him brought in, they will send us out again."

He seems somewhat worried as he says this.
Trax begins the bring the starfreighter, smoking and lurching, down for a landing.
"I guess this is ours now," Trax comments, patting the controls. "What should we call it?"

Once the newly-christened New Beginning sets down, it gives a tired gasp as its engines power down for the first time under your possession. Trax does not give himself a moment's rest; he immediately sets to figuring out what repairs need to be made.
It is within the next hour that the Republic forces arrive, led by a Jedi craft transporting the venerable Master Ki-Adi-Mundi to Varloucant. But it is too late for Corellian gunships to make much difference to what has transpired over the surface of Varloucant. The biggest differences were made by one Xavier Kolarn, with assistance from his companions and his Jedi Master.
A cruiser also arrives from Almania, escorted by many dagger-shaped starfighters. Senator Wojaine has arrived to ensure the security and safe return of his daughter. No dirty deals with pirates this time; he has shown up in full force. His thanks are many and he asks if there is anything he can do to repay you for your bravery, but Cabas insists that it is only the duty of a Jedi Knight.
"Keep in touch, Jedi," is all Loola says to you, Xavier, before giving you a brief kiss and parting under the protection of armed guards.
This is a victory, Xavier, or so you have been told. Varloucant has suffered few casualties in its bombardment, few in comparison to what could have been if you had not prevented its total annihilation by Svidrigailov. The slaves are freed and have been greeted warmly as political refugees on Coruscant. Loola Wojaine is safe.
But this is a hollow victory for yourself. Svidrigailov was slain by Friste, but that means that Friste is still out there. Even as Cabas is debriefed by Ki-Adi-Mundi, you can only wonder where he will go next...

The Ravaging Claw, Space
Sitting in darkness, glaring out into the starry streaks of hyperspace, Friste waits patiently for the report.
"My Lord," comes a hail from the bridge. "We have made hyperspace. Naval forces arrived in Varloucant airspace just after our departure, from Corellia and Almania. I think we left just in time."
Friste does not respond.
"The Ravaging Claw is in dire need of repairs, my Lord," the pirate continues. "Do you have orders?"
Friste glares at the holographic image. "Set course for the Outer Rim. I am sure we can persuade a scrapyard to lend their assistance. Prepare the men for raids, if need be. I must have that power generator repaired and shields restored. We will need them for what I have planned."
"What is that, my Lord?" the pirate asks, quizzically.
"You shall see," Friste says, shutting off the hologram communicator as he unfurls a scroll from his robes. It is ancient parchment. "You shall see."
