Thankfully, no, now it takes less than 5. But it seems the matchmaking is in need of more tweaking as I'm a level 2 and I get pitted against 10+ (lack of players?).
Going to give it another try.

That's because the new ranking system is nothing more than a leveling system. Rank now symbolizes time investment rather than skill or achievement, it's not really meaningful anymore.
The old ranks are still there only hidden under the hood and that's what's still used to set up fair matches as those are your 'true skill' rankings, meant to show a players skill.
Gave it another shot and to be honest I actually found a few lagfree games but that was like 2 out of 10 times that happened and the damn game is still near unplayable when it's lagging.
At least they fixed a few things, like the chainsaw.
Gender: Male Location: In Luna's mane, chasing STAAARS!
Obviously Epic hasn't taken the right route with the Sires. Those things are a major mystery. My guess is that they're a combo between humans and Locust. The reason they're hunch backed is because they were in those tubes too long so don't expect them to have Brumak DNA if that's what you're thinking.
Now that I think about it, does anyone else think that that thing on the Queen's back is a parasite? Locust can have a slight similiarity with humans but there's no way a Locust should look fully human. My guess is that a parasite latched onto that woman and now controls her.
Gender: Male Location: Living my life, fighting my war.
Pssh, knowing Epic and their nack for mediocre storytilling, Locusts are humans that have been mutated by immulsion, through experements done in that lab you visit in Gears 2, and the Sires are a transitional phaze between the two races.
And as far as the Locust Queen goes... well I can really see Epic making her Marcus' mother...
Gender: Male Location: In Luna's mane, chasing STAAARS!
Wrong! If Locust get exposed to imulsion, they turn into lambents and with enough damage, they blow up so how you think they turn into humans because of imulsion is beyond me.
If the Locust Queen is Marcus' mom, it would explain a lot of things.
Oh and the patch didn't do shat for me. I have medium NAT I guess is the problem but I still can't find anyone. Need to return this piece of shit all ready before it gets too old.

So I got this game for Christmas, and played it some on the 25th, the training mission. But after that I didn't play the game again, busy with Fallout 3, Mario Kart Wii etc etc
Until yesterday when I had just finished Fallout 3 the day before, I started again, and now as I type this the credits are rolling. This game was soo freaking much better then the first one. I enjoyed it 99% of the time (darned vehicle sections), and I was pulled along the story and action all the way to the end. Where in GoW 1 I had to force myself to bother finishing it.
I wonder if GoW 3 will revolve around the Lambent, if there will be a third game, has there been any word of that?
EDIT: Ooh, I see Karen Traviss has written the Gears novel... Seeing the great job she did with Republic Commando, I think I'll check it out. Any of you read it?
I don't believe their has been confirmation as of yet, but Epic have noted they want it to be a trilogy and the 2nd game does end in a way that allows for a 3rd one so it's more then likely, I can see the Lambent being a focal point as well as the truth behind the Sires, and I'm also hoping for a showdown with the queen.
I'm pretty sure they never said the number of games they wanted, thought I heard the head honcho guy say the trilogy thing was just a rumor. Though I could be wrong been a long time.
Well I must agree that the campaign is better, though I was a bit bitter at the fact that they killed off Dizzy and all the new characters, and it basically ended more or less the same. But the online of it is what everyone had a problem with.

I didn't think he was during the game I was sure he'd make some surprise appearance and save the day but alas he didn't and no one mentioned him being alive to Marcus so all signs point to him being dead

So I've tried the multiplayer some, gotten to lvl 5.
The multiplayer experience has been a real roller-coaster, going from one of the most boring and frustrating things I've ever done, to being some of the coolest things I've done. I've basically given up trying to find and pick up weapons, I do all my killing with the start weapons, as I have never managed to find any of the weapon locations. Are there any maps online that show where the weapons spawn?
Also the lvling system in this game must be the absolute worst one I have ever seen. Negative exp. for quitting? How ridiculous, some darned slow matches (Annex etc) last for waaay too long a time for them to expect people to sit through it all, and sometimes I lag to death (even though I have an amazing 10MB connection), but don't dare quit because of a silly system. I sure hope they remove that shit in the next update...
You can always play with bots and put weapons on default and just take your time learning the locations.
Negative Experience is a must to prevent whinners/kids/stupid ******* from quitting matches after the 1st round. I hope to hell they do not take it away. You obviously didn't have that much experience with quitters. In all honestly about 9 out of 10 games I played had 2-3 people quitting--which is lame.
But there are soo many other better ways to deal with quitters.
Instead of drawing exp, give them a 30-60 min temporary ban from joining any new multiplayer matches, that way when we have to go, we won't care since we will most likely be away for more then an hour if we first have to suddenly go.
