Umm, no, you mean, Evo even posted this up towards to DoA4 players, you saw a few Top DoA4 players show up, but besides that...how many? They didn't even get 15 players for that game, and Evo did a number to spread the word. On another note, is the DoA series truly as respected as the other fighting game franchises like SF, or Tekken? Especially when someone like Itagaki states comments like "DoA is made so that even a new player can come in and beat a really good player".
Only in recent DoA games have they finally pushed for a more deeper fighting game, however DoA3 (forgot which one, but an updated version of the DoA3) I believe was the really respected one.
People play what they like, it's not "our" fault that we have a country that is thousands of miles larger then they are so communities and players are spread on a massive scale in comparison to all of Japan. It's not our fault that unlike them, we have to travel super far distances for competition where as for them, it's a walks away to a decent arcade stand.
It's not our fault that arcades died over here, simply due to the fact that the culture here has a different mindset about video games than how it is viewed in Japan.
You take alot of those into account, and you'll see why certain fighting games just don't catch on. SNK came out a time when Street Fighter II was the Jesus of Fighting Games, everyone played it and felt it was too SF like and dropped it. Virtua Fighter's problem was that the creators where idiots and decided to only really sponsor and push VF within Japan only, reasons why beyond VF2, you didn't see alot of arcade cabinets or anything VF related. Only now have they again try to push VF slightly outside of Japan, but most of it's marketing is still geared within the country itself...poor marketing ='s not alot of other people will be playing it.
GG series is great, but they just showed up way, way, way too late, when 2-D fighters are well...dying, and 3-D fighters are the new "hot stuff"...linear players today do not understand that 2-D fighters bring different elements that 3-D fighters cannot bring and vise versa. You sell Guilty Gear next to something like Tekken 5 during that time, and see which one gets picked up more.
Why blame Evo though? Shouldn't it be the community from the MK who should say "Hey, we have a solid group of competition, we can make it happen". The fact of the matter is, you need to prove that there is reasonable competition for it, and that it can attract alot of competitive players.
Evo simply doesn't want to open up or vacate a spot, and have only 10 people registering to play it. The MK community if they want recognition again need to actually go out and do something instead of waiting for a hopeful prayer or someone else to pull them back up on their legs.
If you show that you have very good competition as well as a good community of players, then Evo will be more then happy to take you in...just look at the SSBM community. I actually helped push to have that be IN Evo, due to the fact that they had a high number of competitive players and tournaments to result in there case back at srk.com when people said it couldn't "work"...case and point, you need to do something about it if you want it at Evo, you can't just expect it to be there.
What has the MK community proven on a tournament level that's on the same caliber as others such as SF, Tekken, or even SC in recent years?
Like I said, put something strong together and go make it happen.
Alot of sports started out like this, alot of things that are competitive started out like this, nothing is ever made easy. When Real $$$ is involved...you have to prove it, they don't just simply hand it to you.
Honestly, there's a difference between saying "We cannot wait to compete with Street Fighter IV, because it's a great franchise and we are happy to be in competition with them." to "We will kick SF:IV's Ass."
Well you should know Itagaki says alot of crazy things. I know DOA is usually said to be less deeper than Tekken or Virtua Fighter but it does bring a new way of 3D fighting to genre.
But you see, that's the problem. Back in the early 90s, hardly any games got much respect simply because fans oftenly saw them as SF2 rip-offs. SNK is a great example of this, even though it managed to pull through. Of course nowadays, US seem to be more fair toward other series but sometimes, they're still oftenly put below SF.
I'm not trying to "blame" the US for anything, it's just that as we know, many games were oftenly seen as inferior to SF and thus hardly got much recognition because of it.
Yeah, it did show up pretty late but following the first one, the games did manage to get enough attention.
Because at Evo, you got games that are hardly even out yet (like SSF2T:HD, SFIV, and TvC), and they're already up there.
Like I said before, there's some tournaments at ECC and also some MK2 online tournaments, if that counts.
And after spotting one little tiny problem, it gets pulled away.
Not if you know the person isn't someone who's being an ass.
We'll see.

A little off topic but I remember during a discussion about crossover games (I think it was in the MK vs. DC thread), someone said that Ryu vs. Naruto is stupid. To be honest, I kind of agreed with that a little bit but now, I don't think it's really that bad. It seems like a good match to me.
I hate to say this but I don't think Speed Racer is gonna be in this game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he's a Tatsunoko original like the other characters
Well I believe it will someday. In a game, that is.
