Guild Wars is an MMO without the montly fee, and Guild Wars 2 isn't out yet. First is pretty solid. Probably pretty cheap these days as it's pretty old. Worth a look, I'd say.
The way the skills are handled in Diablo are almost identical to Guild Wars, in how your build is dictated simply by what abilities you have on your hotbar at any given time.
Ironic, being as the studio that made Guild Wars was founded by people who left Blizzard Playing GW2 right now, and the similarities are even more apparent. Not to mention the classes...Demon Hunter is a combo of Thief and Engineer, with some Ranger-ness thrown in, Wizard is really more of a Mesmer than anything else...
The skill system is something I very much like, as I like having to think out my build beforehand, and even though in Diablo you can switch skills whenever you want you then have a cooldown on the changed ones, so swapping mid-fight isn't going to help you much.
I'd rather there be a skillpoint system, though; instead of learning skills and runes automatically, you get points as you level up and then can spend those on what you want/need. Just gaining skills as you level feels a bit too dumbed down and simplified for me.
I always thought of the DH as a combination of Amazon and Assassin with a bit of Hunter thrown in and Wiz as basically a Sorc with Rogue energy instead of mana for a resource.
I suppose I don't mind the skill system that much, but I can't help but feel that 6 skills at any given time are simply not enough for me.

My force armor was down and I was wearing Hammer Jammers for move speed (it's got low armor) as well Glass Armor. My Health was around close to 40k tho and I had a crapton of resists (over 500 each) w/c compensated due to Force armor.
Wanted to kill im before the IAS nerf (w/c would make much harder) or before they nerfed inferno damage (w/c would cheapen the accomplishment). Took 4 hours of attempts but I got the bastard. Glad I took the time to do so, cuz it looks like the nerf is happening tonight.
I heard about the "nerf". It was supposedly released this morning. Pretty glad the did some nerfing because I was tired have having the best equipment gold could buy, for my level, and still being 2-shotted in act 3. "Use more amethysts, ignore pain, and stuns!" What do you take me for, a newb? Of course I was using those in my character. Still did not prevent me from being 2 shotted half the time, which makes a game like this not enjoyable. It is as if the game was designed to be.........multiplayer.
Lol. Sure, didn't even notice that i had 666 tomes upon taking the SS. How many you need? Will be out of town for 3 days (and thus away from my PC) but if you add me, i'll toss you what you need for you to fully upgrade your jeweler as soon as I get back.
