have to say, its a lot more challenging than before... enjoyable, but there's an even greater sense of accomplishment after winning than there would have been in the other games... space marines don't seem as offensively strong as i thought they would be, but i'm guessing that will be resolved in the final release...
also, one of my biggest gripes about the old games was how vehicles would get stuck behind troops. i <3 the fact that now, predators just run over scenery, and guys gtfo of the way when they see it approaching...
Yeah I love the destructable environment, I had a squad in cover behind some crates, with their backs to a wall, then an ally tank came crashing though the wall and ruined my cover. Had to rethink my whole deployment.
Power points give bugger all power when taken and even when a node is put on it give not much- not until generators are built on them (which are the buildings that go down AFTER you build the node) do they pay off.
But you can build nodes/generators on ANY point held by your team, not just the ones you take yourselves.
So if your friends capture power nodes, you CAN builld on them to get power. Indeed, in a team game you absolutely should do that. It's extremely rude to not contribute to your team's power income. Even if you capture no nodes yourself, you can still do this.
Limit is one node and three gens per point, so fi you cannot add any it is because it is maxed.
One thing to say for computer allies (the AI is not good in general)- they are very social about adding generators.
Incidentally, whist it is tempting to capture the generators of other players, if the point is a long way from your base and close to theirs you likely won't hold it long. Much better to burn down all the gens they put there and then bugger off- that's a big setback for any team to have that investment wasted.

i went through all of what you described in the last few hours of play... lots of practice against the AI, starting to get the hang of it.
loving the beta. just need to get a win or two under my belt. has to come eventually. i have 3 losses. first one was me on my old rig realising i'd ruin the game. second was a hard battle that was really my first foray in to the game, before i got to practice. third was being booted for lag issues that weren't my own. i refused to boot someone, and i think i got booted for it... i dunno.
The booting syustem is not perfect, neither is the automatching (part of what the beta is for).
A significant patch got applied today- improved things for sure. Good sign of Relic's committment. A heck of a lot of automatch games fail and don't score, btw, which they say will be fixed for release. Btw, it will start to seem like it doens't count your wins and does your losses- this is because games were players quit are more likely to not score, and you are more likely to win games where players quit...
I finally got to even wins/losses with my Apothacary, but now I am trying to learn Eldar, so the 'lots of losses' thing is starting over again...
It IS tricky, isn't it?

As I mentioned before, I thought I was going to be distinctive using him as the hype was all elsewhere, but now all kinds of Marine players want to use him. Booo.
Trying the Warp Sipder Exarch as the Eldar, though I understand that is a popular choice as well...

Has anyone experienced a particularly excessive number of people who leave a match after losing the initial battle for points? Really annoying. That's the problem with this type of system where units are so important, if you lose a few units early on people feel disadvantages for the remainder of the fight, so many seem to just leave immediately after they lose a scout squad in the opening couple of minutes or something. Very annoying.
i tend to move between the three at various times, as i can never seem to decide which ones to use... i was expecting the offensive commander to be tougher though, damage soak wise...
In theory you should but the current system is broken and often you do niot.
Raoul- actually I understand the new patch broke the Apoc's heal ability on most units. Whoops! Well, this is what betas are for...
There's a lot of debate about the new patch actually. The income of req on 3v3 maps has increased dramatically; there is a worry there is now a vehicle spam problem.

I played six games today- the only one that counted was a loss.
I just lost the game I just finsiehd but I got the champion award anyway for highest scoring player- which is damn difficult on the losing side (my kill ratio was insane; I thionk it was 90 kills for 11 losses)- and it still didn't score. BOOO! Should have known that from the astart- we staretd with one of our side already dropped and replaced by AI.
Oh, and some game exploit is letting Ork Kommando teams level bases in seconds right now- dodgy.
Anyway, yeah, right now it is not working right. But they'll blank the stats for launch anyway, most likely.

Thing is, due to the squad tax system- the more pop cap you have used up, the less requsition you get- it's actually much more practical to come back from early losses than people think.
Though some say the increased value of req points since the patch has screwed that up.

ugh. i havent played the beta since my initial 3 games. so i had some time this morning, and stuck it on. i was actually on the winning team (granted the tyranid guy did most of the heavy lifting), and then i go to check my rank. no points added. wtf. i know its happenin to others, but god, my first victory gets spoiled.
