I don't see what's wrong with having people fight for you, compare it to the Pokémon games, your HP is basically your pokemon's total HP, and you fight through them. Simply make the PokeTrainer ( Politician) unattackable and deem him defeat when his followers are down.
Except this is not even remotely like a Pokemon game. The comparison does not work at all. In Pokemon the entire system, from the base up, is built around doing that. Everyone is on the same playing field.
In a game that works the way games like this works, it is not an option that is viable. There are so many things wrong with it!

The concept of having others fight for you in itself is not that bad really, it worked certainly quite good with the Necromancer in Diablo 2. But having a politician with a bodyguard is something entirely different again and I am not sure how that could work, really.

Oh man...the art style. Not like BioWare to make such a crappy looking game. A stylized art direction might look good for WoW, but not SW. SW is going to look like every other MMO on the market, sad (Well, with the exception of Huxley). The gameplay and story better be above excellent, or I won't even consider buying this game.
I wonder who's going to do the score for the MMO. I hope it's Jeremy Soule. His music was a perfect fit for KoToR.
