I think the re-make will certainly look more polished but not necessarily better. I just don't see the need to tone down Freddy's character in any way. Englund's Freddy came with that black humour which I thought was terribly unnerving and relevant to the character.
The cajoling and the mocking of the victims he sought were a constant reminder as to the familiarity of how he treated his victims; who he of course still saw as children and so thats how he treated them.
Also the realistic burns issue, I'm not trying to nitpick but there is no reason to have a truly realistic burned face or wheezy voice as Freddy doesn't exist in the real world. If he looks and feels too realistic you might lose the sense of being in a dream world. Craven's Freddy could actually become the bed or chair you were sleeping in, he wasn't just a human-looking entity.
Doesn't look to bad. I have to accept that i'm no longer a teenager, so this movie wasn't made for me. I think as long as i can accept that and get past the fact that, Englund is no longer Freddy, i might have a chance at enjoying this. I don't think it'll be to hard to over look the fact that this movie is made for the young teens but it will take one helluva performace to make up for the lack of Englund. I still think it was a bad decision to not cast, Robert Englund as Krueger. I understand that he is probably to old for such a physical role but he could still have served as a voice actor.
The voice i heard in this trailer has me very skeptical. It sounds to common of a voice. Krueger is supposed to sound unique and slightly unworldly. I'm also nervous about the decision to use CGI for his face. Make-up and practical effects should be more than enough to create Freddy's burned face. With that said, other than the casting of Krueger, the trailer makes the movie look like it has potential.

Yeah I noticed that bit, loved the Sarah Connor Chronicles...never missed an episode I reckon he'll die in this, trying to figure out which ones I think will go...hoping they do the whole blood coming out the bed bit like in the original when Johnny Depps character died
