How was it?

I just finished Martyrs, and it was a pretty intense movie. A lot of "emotionally loaded" scenes. To be honest I didn't care much for how it was supposed to be "organized" [SPOILER - highlight to read]: A bunch of old farts trying to find out about life after death by torturing young girls? At the end I was just hoping Leatherface would crash the place and butcher everyone, but that's just me.

Good movie, not on par with Inside.

Dorothy Mills is one I want to see.

Yeah, no, can't understand French. I suppose i'm going to have to get this one like a normal person and rent it on DvD when it releases. I hear great things about it. Good guy better win at the end though. Goddamned, Inside, pissed me off with that shiit. mad Someone other than the freak show was supposed to survive. JK, great movie wink

yeah, give Dorothy Mills a shot. I heard that a lot people didn't like it because of pacing. I can see that, but personally, i fascinated from beginning to end.

What do you mean by pacing? slow? I don't mind slow films at all.

quote:

I'll just say, wins in a way if you follow the story and understand what is happening. One scene in the end is so satisfying(mentioned it in a spoiler a few posts back)

Kris - I can't believe you didn't care for how it was 'organised', it's so creepy and there was a whole bleak point to it all according to you know who in the film. It ended perfectly.

You saw it?!?! And and and?! Did you like it?

Seriously disturbing shit.
Now that you've seen it, lets have some polemic discussion about it -
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Has Anna told the old shit what she wanted to hear, and with that became a martyr by end other young women's possible suffering at their hands, etc...or has she really reached martyrdom.

That movie was filmed here in Quebec, and alot of TV stars adn celebrities from here were at the meeting in the end.

Did you watch it in French?

I can't make up my mind if she [SPOILER - highlight to read]: told the ***** what she wanted to hear, or made up something that made the old woman think life was meaningless or Anna said she saw nothing good beyond, hopefully thinking it would make the group believe it pointless to carry on doing this to women to find out the answers, something in that realm and that's the reason she shot herself.

Didn't she say something to that man like 'Keep on doubting' I can't remember the exact line?

I did see it in French, I don't like dubbing.

I remember the end, it was [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Do you know what comes after life etienne? and then she says "doubt" and shoots herself

I was pretty satisfied with that.

Of course. Dubbing in English is weird. It is as weird as dubbing in French.
I perfer hearing the original language, regardless what it is. I don't know why I persumed you'd have foregin movies dubbed in North America...my bad.

As Kris Blaze said, I was satisified with the ending. I don't think any answer would have worked other than what it was.

Since the movie is opened for interpretation, I'd like to think that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Anna told the old fart that black abbys awaits her for she is not meant to know what happens when one dies, until that happens, and that if she wanted to know, she should go there herself.
Or something super revolting or mind destroying, so much so that drove the old nasty fart to suicide.

Also, as I recall [SPOILER - highlight to read]: old fart was saying something about martyrdom not being religious or something along the lines, I can't quite recall, so perhaps Anna MADE it religious....perhaps
Ugh, I don't think I have ever felt such resentment towards bad guys, as I have in this movie.

I thought about that movie for a long time after watching it.

I'm in Britain. stick out tongue

The film stayed with me a long time after also.

Watched Rogue last night, Australian horror about a giant crocodile, and apparently you can get bigger ones than the one that appears in this film!! bloody hell.

Enjoyed Rogue a lot, beautifully shot. Wolf Creek is still his strongest film. Rogue is a nice addition too. smile

Yep they are filming, there is a teaser trailer out. Not sure if I put a link to it in the REC topic?

I'm not near London, right up in the North of England. Do you mean showing at Fright Festival? I can go anytime I want though since my Father lives down near London smile

Yep, REC 2 should be at Fright Fest this year. Don't quote me on it, though, its just something I heard.

I wonder if there are any horror fests around Montreal, I'd love to go.

There should be a movie marathon as well this year in London, I just wonder what movies will be on. Not that I'll be there to see them sad

I've watched a fair few horror movies lately.

Autopsy - Good gore but the acting was bad.
Martyrs - Not much to say except pure carnage.
Vinyan - VERY creepy.
Donkey Punch - Liked this one, some cool kills.
The Children - Was ok but I think Plague Town will be better.
King of the Ants - Stuart Gordon is in the top 5 horror directors for sure.
The Tribe - A new kind of cannibal flick which was enjoyable.

Did you like Martyrs though. It's getting the usual name calling here in England by idiot critics, as in that most stupid term torture porn, and one critic even said only loners at film festivals watch it... talk about up his own arse.

Not much full on horror watching for me at the moment, watched Twilight last night, nice bit of horror in there for a 12 certificate.

I like Inside better than Martyrs. Inside is so much better.

I'd agree with him, you have to be some sort of loner or weirdo to like movies like Martyrs, they aren't for everyone, and if you are a fan of horror there is no denying you are deranged in some sort of way. I don't mind, I'm individual and couldn't care less what people think about me.

If you have gone out of your way to watch movies like Salo and that, there is something wrong with you, but is that really a bad thing?

I'm sorry, but that is some of the most idiotic rubbish I have read in a long time. Yes these type of films are not for everyone, but just because you can sit through such films doesn't mean you are a loner/deranged in some way.

You can say that if the person who watches it gets off on such things and doesn't feel anything inside and so on.

But don't lump me and other normal people in with the minority of idiots.

Watched Underworld III: Rise of the Lycans, not as good as Underworld but so much better compared to the horrible Underworld II: Evolution.

You are a girl who likes horror movies, I'm sorry but only goth chicks like horror movies. 'Normal' chicks don't like horror movies. So either you are a goth, or you are not a normal chick. Normal chicks like Romantic comedys.

So you are some sort of weirdo/loner/deranged person. Just accept it and move on.

Seriously, no normal girl in Australia would track down Martyrs to watch.
