Bound in human flesh, inked in human blood, and incredibly hard to pronounce, the Book of the Dead has found its way into the hands of a grieving book historian who has lost his family in a freak accident.

Upon coming across a Resurrection spell, the historian intones the forbidden words. Instead of reviving his family, he instead revives someone who has been dead for quite sometime.

Officer Matt Cordell.

Once a decorated officer in the New York Police Department, he was framed by his crooked superiors and sent to Sing Sing Prison, where he was supposedly killed in the midst of taking a shower.

Three times he returned as the infamous 'Maniac Cop,' unleashing his wrath on the NYPD. Thought to have been cleared by fellow officer Sean McKinney, Cordell's tortured soul has risen again, and the Big Apple is under attack.

Meanwhile, badass Deadite slayer Ashley Williams is being detained by the NYPD. Along with Cordell, Deadites were seen in the area, and Ash's description fits that of the person behind the killings.

As he is being questioned by Captain McKinney, Cordell attacks the police station, and all hell breaks loose. Cordell cuts a path of destruction through the precinct as he did years earlier. Not even the SWAT could put him down.

This is where Ash comes in.

After recovering his personal toys from the evidence room, he returns to see Cordell toss McKinney through a door. Just as Cordell is going to kill the man who cleared him, gunfire rings out, knocking the pistol out of Cordell's hand, allowing McKinney to escape.

Cordell's rotting face glares down on the man who is armed with a sawed-off shotgun and a chainsaw for his left hand.

"Yo, big man!" Ash shouts. "Whew...I've seen plenty of ugly Deadites, pal, but you would win first place."

Cordell brandishes a shotgun, cocking it.

"Nice shotgun," Ash quips, showing off his own piece. "But it's not better than my own boomstick! Let's go!"

Ash is armed with only his chainsaw, McKinney's pistol, and his chainsaw.

Cordell has his brute strength, his shotgun and his baton/knife.
