This king among punk rock bands decided to get ambitious. They wanted to take the sounds of many different genres and punk rockify them. After a few good albums, they decide to play the sort of music that fills an arena. Absolute sell-outs I tell you.

They get in some big shot legendary producer to do things. Everyone’s complaining that it’s too “slick” for some reason. I agree! Punk is supposed to sound bad. Whatever happened to pissing off radio stations and suburban mothers? With high-string guitar melodies layered on top of power chords everywhere, you could get a good sound, I guess, but then you decide to throw in a bunch of unnecessary instruments. Overproduction, much?

The lead singer/guitarist thinks that he knows shit about politics? Like what? He barely got an education, and his jobs before the band weren’t exactly impressive. It’s like a homeless man screaming at you that the world is going to end.

What’s all this talk about apocalypse? Why do they take familiar drum beats and apply them to their own songs? What gives these guys the right to talk about the current state of the world in the final year of the decade?
