Yeah, they were a psychobilly / punk band who are most well-remembered for their song "Human Fly", which contains the line "I've got 96 tears and 96 eyes", a reference to '96 Tears' by ? & the Mysterians, a band often credited as an early lasting influence on punk. The Cramps best-known album remains "Bad Music for Bad People", a compilation of their earlier work put out without their permission by their label — which the band condemned. Nonetheless, the compilation proved to be influential itself, being referenced throughout later alternative and underground music (such as "Fat Music for Fat People", a compilation by NOFX's frontman's Fat Mike for his own record label, Fat Wreck Chords).
Other notable Cramps songs include 'Garbageman', 'Goo Goo Muck', and their cover of Charlie Feathers' classic rockabilly song 'I Can't Hardly Stand It', complete with an imitation of Feathers' distinctive 'hiccup' vocal style.
The band remained active from the late '70s onwards, until frontman Lux Interior died in the late '00s.
Their guitarist, Poison Ivy, is influential within psychobilly, and was even heralded by the Gun Club in their song, 'For the Love of Ivy', a song that Jack White once said was so good that it should be taught in schools, and which the White Stripes covered a number of times in concert.
