so, recently, I have gotten in this argument with several people.
most seem to agree with me that when a guy hits a girl, that's wrong.
for several reasons. mostly (for me) it's a "pick-on-someone-your-own-size" kind of thing.
I was always taught that, outside of direct family, if a guy hits a girl, he's toast. and a group of people will be on his ass to make sure it doesn't happen again.
so I come here to New York and to my surprise, when i kick a guy friend jokingly in the shins, he hits me. seriously.
and I have several friends in Maine that i have told this to and have said very clearly, "that happens again, you call me and we'll see you in a few hours."
well here, I seem to have met quite a few people who strongly disagree with me and try to tell me that that kind of mentality is sexism.
I don't believe so. they think chivalry is dead and that if a girl hits a guy, even if it's just a joke, she DESERVES to get hit back.
but the problem with that is that saying that is a lot like saying it's okay for a guy to hit his girlfriend or wife and if that happens then she deserved it and shouldn't be given special treatment because she's a girl.
one person today tried arguing that if a girl hits first then that's being violent and she should be hit back because people shouldn't hit. (seems a bit hypocritical to me).
anyways. opinions?
personally. pick on someone your own damn size, it's not sexism to not hit a girl because she's a girl. and if a guy does hit a girl, he will probably end up getting hit back twice as hard.
