The stuff in bold was the show. The GMA staff told us in advance that they were going to play just a teaser of Longview. "She" was played during a commercial break - I don't know if any of it got shown on the air. EJN, The Static Age, and JOS were the bonus songs after the show was over. Billie Joe said (after the show songs were finished) "We're going to keep playing for a bit, so that's how we knew the show was over. Then when Bill S. ran over and told him "last song" he said, "Last song? We're just getting warmed up! **** all this stopping and starting bullshit!"
During the sound check, they started At the Library (no vocals, just the intro) and Billie did intro lead guitar to the Birthday Song (Beatles) when someone told him it was their birthday.
Tre doing the ballet dancing/gymnastic routine with the toilet paper was hilarious. At the end of EJN, Billie Joe got the cutest little girl up on stage and asked her if she wanted to dance. So for the very ending fast part of the song (after the pause), she just rocked out! She was great. It was so cute and sweet.
And yes, at one point during the sound check, when they kept telling everyone to be quiet for the weather update, Billie had the whole crowd chanting "**** the weather" again and again. The GMA guy finally said, "... blah blah blah can't do that because people live along here and we don't want Miley Cyrus to get screwed next week" (I told Cheryl I think that's already happened).
They had big inflatable balls for the crowd to bounce around. At one point Billie asked someone to give him one and he punched it out into the crowd. Then everyone started sending them up to him - Tre also ran down and batted one to the crowd with his drumsticks, and Mike batted one out with his bass.
It was a fun very relaxed time, and I'm so glad I got up at 3:30 to go. It was great to have Cheryl and her hubby and daughter with us too. We had a really pleasant time.
Hahahaha - I also really enjoyed the sound check by the techs - they played two songs and the guitar tech and bass tech (Micah) sang them smile.gif.
After the show, we saw Billie Joe hanging out outside the bus and chatting with people. When they all walked over to get in their van and leave, I also spotted Jason W and Mike.
I have had such an awesome time in New York and really enjoyed those of you I got to meet. Wish I'd managed to connect with more of you, though!
These are good, and they also remind me of something - it was hilarious to me how hard the GMA staff had to work to control the crowd. Then Billie would hold his hands up and lower them (palm down) to indicate he wanted the crowd to be quiet, and the crowd would immediately subdue itself. Then he'd get them to be loud - then quiet. It was so funny. Once the GMA guy was trying to get them to calm down, and it wasn't working. Billie just walked down nearer the front of the stage - did his hand motion - and everyone shut up. I'd feel a bit outclassed if I were that GMA staffer.
