I was at the venue at 3 p.m. and there was maybe 150 people before us (my brother and I). I started talking with a 32 year-old guy (I don't know his name and I've talked with him during almost all the waiting!?) who was bringing his 9 year-old son. His son had been listening to Green Day since he was 5 so that's pretty cool. Later, I've learned that he was not on the floor and that he was waiting in line for nothing... He could have come to the venue at 7 p.m. if he wanted to. I also chatted with two guys who were from Granby.
At 6:30 the line started to move. We finally get in, bought a t-shirt and went to the bathroom as fast as possible. By the time we arrived on the floor there was already people against the rail, so we ended up in front of the catwalk, right in the middle, with maybe 3 or 4 rows before us. During the waiting before The Bravery's set, we sang with a guy (I'm sure those of you who were close enough remember this guy): Si tu aimes Green Day, tappe des mains. Si tu aimes Green Day...." He also tried to do a wave with the crowd several times but it didn't work.
Then the Bravery took the stage. They were good, even though the singer was kind of strange and their set list was short.
Now place to GREEN DAY!
When they arrived on stage everybody in the Bell centre was freaking out. My hands were shaking, I was screaming as louder as possible. I won't tell you the setlist because it has already been posted, but it was amazing. During the song Know Your Enemy, a guy went on stage. I think he was really surprised (it's the middle-age guy if you've seen the pictures) and I think he wanted to play the guitar (not sure but he was doing air guitar). But Billie was singing and pointing the mic so the guy could sing with him but he didn't seem to understand. Finally, Billie ended up turning the mic in front of him so he could sing. Then he did a stage dive. They did some songs from the new album (the sames as the other nights) and from American Idiot. I knew the setlist and I was really stunned when they started to play J.A.R. followed by 2,000 LYA and Welcome to Paradise. I thought it was funny when everybody was singing BOBD and BJ was sitting on the step with his guitar on his knees and looking in the crowd. I love when the crowd has a role to play in a show and we all know that Green Day tries the involve the crowd as much as possible. Also, it was really hot on the floor, by the second song I was already all wet and I could also feel the heat from the flames (so it wasn't helping). At least, the security guards were giving us some water from time to time. I also noticed that they were very stricted on the cameras: they didn't want to see them (unfortunately for the girls in front of me who were trying to get some videos). Anyway, the guys were amazing! They brought so much energy that you don't have the choice to involve yourself. I don't know how they can but so much energy night after night. I guess that when you truly love something you give everything to this passion. You can see that they truly enjoy being there playing music for 13,000 people. There is a user on this forum who has said that they were doing albums to go on tour and it is really what it is. They're writing albums that can be played live! Two persons went on stage to sing Longview; they were good even though they messed up the lyrics a little bit. In fact, the second person who went on stage was pretty energetic, jumping everywhere on the stage (I can't remember if it was him who has been kissed by BJ). For me, one of the highlights was at the end, when BJ played WIMHA and TOYL because I was right in the front of the catwalk (not on the rail but...) and I could see his hands on the guitar playing the songs (I love his hands) and his tattoos on his right arms. There was several stage dives and I was right in the "landing area" most of the time it was ok, but there's a guy who jumped right on me and I wasn't able to push him up so he ended up falling on me...Anyway if you're on the floor you should expect to have some bruises, to have contacts with the other persons (during St-Jimmy I was so squeezed that I couldn't mive), to be all sweaty, but to have a great time anyway. So if you don't like to be close to other persons don't go on the floor!! My brother was bitten by a girl 2 times on the shoulder which is kind of strange. It was the first time I heard something like that...In fact, it's pretty crazy, I don't see how or why you would want to BITE a stranger.
When I saw Green Day WAAAAAY back when they were good, they picked 3 people out of the audience. One for guitar, one for drums, and one for bass. Taught them each the riffs for the song (Which really weren't that complex), and then Billie Joe would sing while the three were playing. Eventually, the drummer kicked the audience member off his drums because he sucked ass.
