They say it has about 10 hours of game play and I can't think of a single Metroid game that has any more than that.

Metroid as a series was short until the Prime series came along. If you're good enough you can play through Zero Mission, Return of Samus, Super Metroid, and Fusion in a day. Hell, the 2D games give you better rewards the faster you get through it, and the best result as far as the game is concerned is from playing through in less than 2 hours.
Not saying more content isn't good, but shortness is kind of a silly reason to knock a Metroid game.
According to aggregate scores from GameRankings, Other M is at 82%, two percent higher than lowest-ranking game Metroid II: Return of Samus.
Gotta say, when your entire series is 8/10 or higher, you're doing pretty damn well.

Prime was an amazing and rare gem of a sub-series, and quite frankly I never expected Team Ninja to get anywhere near that bar of excellence.
Fusion I probably can't speak on objectively. It was my very first Metroid game. And Zero Mission was rather constrained by being a mostly-straight redo of the original, though they still managed to add on a well-done new chapter.
The fact remains, though, aside from Primes, the series encourages quick completion. It may perhaps be a criticism of Metroid as a whole, but when you say "This game is not a good Metroid game, because it's a bit short" it seems a tad silly to me.

I don't think you can use a speed run bonus objective as a measure of a game's intended length. The speed run could be there whatever the game's final length was, altered appropriately. People speed run Final Fantasy games.
Zero Mission and Fusion were both criticised for their short running time (noticeably shorter than similar Castlevania games, especially Zero Mission), and even more so their hand holding. The point is that Prime changed things for Metroid; you cannot go back to old ways that were actually a bad thing and not expect people to pick it up as a point of criticism.

I would hardly call it a bonus objective. Metroid's tradition of a gradually less-covered Samus existed from the beginning of the series as a sort of "grade" on your completion. Right up until Fusion the better grades were tied entirely to how fast you finished the game, with the best grade appearing for completion under two hours.
This is quite different from, say, the record of completing Prime in just over an hour. That is possible but not intended, while in the case of the original series, finishing in under 2 hours is in fact the goal.

X play is for losers. no matter how "honest" they are. (most of the time they are not.) X play isn't a true game reviewer and over hypes games like gears of war.
Xplay's long since become not unlike such personalities among the media as Yahtzee Crowshaw or Gamespot users: Entertainers first, reviewers second. Although that term is used loosely in the case f Gamespot users.
Say what you want about their credibility. I found their criticisms of the game to be pretty valid, personally. I was expecting someof those issues to be present though; it's Team Ninja. They don't know how to make a female character that isn't wallowing in feminity and sex appeal.

I think I know what they're bitching about and considering what she's been through, we should expect at least a little PTSD from Samus.

The Gears of War review was what finished them for me. It got a great review but they never really explained why. They kept verbally climaxing over all the blood and gore resulting from chainsaws or otherwise.

While I do agree that the terms "women" and "dignity" should never be used in the same sentence regarding Team Ninja, I kinda have yet to see any such traits from Samus in this game, at least to as much a level as what can be considered worth criticising, because from what I've seen, only idiots would take whatever they've made Samus into to a level beyond nitpicking, especially compared to Team Ninja's flagship lassies.
The biggest change I see in Samus' looks is a mole and high-heels, but I see no particular lack of what made her a standard among female protagonists in terms of personality or actions (she still seems pretty badass to me), her chest seems to still lack milk silos with seperate physics based on inch-by-inch movement of her character model, and last I checked, dat ass was there since ZSS was first conceived.
Nonetheless, I have yet to formally play the game, so if I'm missing anything, then by all means, enlighten me.
I played about an hour this morning before work. So far my only issue with Samus is that she says what she needs to say in one sentence, and then takes three paragraphs to say it again in many different ways.
But that's just Japanese storytelling, and I can't be terribly angry at a Japanese game for that.
