I don't mind it, personally. I don't think it's consistent with the rest of the series, but, ultimately I don't think it hurts her character overall.

They might have pulled such a self-doubting personality with these strange emotional attachment issues off, continuity or none, if they had written it well. But as said, it was pretty dire in that respect.
And the ironic thing is, like I mentioned a long time ago, I don't think it is THAT big a deal either, as you can still just try to enjoy the game and Metroid doesn't have a narrative tradition that people have normally enjoyed that this game would contrast badly to.
But that doesn't excuse tying to pretend it is in continuity when it so plainly is not.

Personally, I think this has gone on long enough. Neither side is gaining any ground and it has become a flat-out argument with very little point. I can understand that both parties are fans of the Metroid series, but really? Not a topic worth arguing, says I.
Things need to calm down or I'm going to lock the thread.
Based on what? I've trashed Other M but I praised some of the other games, in particular Corruption.
I'm not really invested; that's why I have a claim of objectivity.
My argument was intellectual; about the issues of letting prejudice blind you to what is so plainly a problem. That's bad form from any quarter at any point.

I got what the argument was about, yeah, I just don't understand why. Let's leave be, guys.
I never managed to get all the way through Corruption since I left for college and the Wii did not follow me. Bad timing. Actually, I don't think I ever finished Echoes...
Though in Echoes, it's actually not Samus who goes all dark and edgy (difficult to do with how much characterization is even seen during the Primes), but rather the world itself.

Again, that's not an appropriate tone. That's something better taken to PM.
Prime is of a very different pace and design from a standard FPS. Some people like to mess around calling it a First Person Adventure, though honestly that's slightly delusional. You either shoot or scan everything in sight.
