That is one place(of many) I regret not seeing while I was there.

I have never been, but I would really love to go.
Funny you mentioned that because I was supposed to go to Jerusalem and Jaffa in November with a friend of mine - she's going to visit her mom, and I was gonna tag along, but due to unforseen circumstances we canceled.

That would have been perfect time to visit Jordan - I also have friends in Syria, and would have loved to go around Damascus properly.

St Laurent is the ''happening street'', and you wanna go to the west of the island, since that is more English. Lots of cool places to go, excellent strip clubs, depends what kind of music you want and what kind of entertainment!

Do you do clubbing? I hope so.
Also, there are excellent places which brew their own beer, if you like beer, and there are some excellent house parties happening on the French side - to which you're now officialy invited by moi!

Where are you staying?

I am not sure if I will have internet access at the place we are staying (my friend knows the name, it's someplace near all the nightlife though). PM me your number if you want and I will give you a ring when we are there. A house party would be so sick if you can get us over to one of those.

I do love clubbing and I love me some beer.

Are most people bilingual up there? Or should I start brushing up on my French right now?

I'll PM you number you can reach me on.

People are generally billingual, especially down town and pretty much all will know English, especially young people.
In shops, bars, clubs, stores, everyone speaks both languages, since it is obligatory, so you'll be alright there as well.

People who will be hosting houseparties are French and Quebec French, but most speak English - most of them are really good (although you do have occasional i-know-two-words-in-english people, but those are rare).

Oh and casino - that would be a blast. I haven't been yet!

It's a great place ^^

As for the french language in Montreal...

Usually, people will understand you even if they have difficulty to answer you back.

But yeah, the nightlife in Montreal is INSANE.

i have a one year work permit, but yes, god willing, i'd rather stay. ireland's economy/job market just isn't able to support people like me right now, and hopefully i can get a half decent job over here.

laughing out loud yes, i am in calgary.

i didn't go no, but i walked past a few of the places people were partying while i was checking out the city. nothing quite like seeing a bunch of cowboys singing Kung Fu fighting.

jokes aside though, its a very nice city.

I've been to a lot of places. My favorite place in Europe would be Sicily, and Scottland.

Scottland was just cool. I had this whole tour over all of Scottland where I would stay in some breakfast and bed houses, and it was better than hotels. People were really enthusiastic and kind. I hated the 'haggis' thought. It has beatiful sights, the castles are cool, and then the mountain cows.

And you see sheep and goats just running around everywhere. I was sight seeing a lighttower there, I forgot what it was called, and it was a really really long way up. Like hundreds and hundreds of steps. And the whole way through, like 50 sheep were following me. I felt sorry for them up at the very peak thought, I don't think they were smart enough to go back.

In central/south America, I would definately recommend Aruba. It's just great. I've been to Dominican Republic, Brazil, Jamaica, Haiti, Cayman Islands, and some more, but Aruba is by far the best. I think it's because Aruba is actually still a Dutch or English colony or something, so it's pretty luxurious there compared to other central american countries. There's no poorness there, or shacks and tents a few miles of the city as there usually are in South and Central America.

And since I was born in Russia, although I moved to New York at a young age, I still visit there every summer. I wouldn't suggest going to the smaller towns or villages, but visiting St.Petersburg and Moscow is great. Russians tend not to like Americans much though, probably same as Americans tend to think Russians as barbaric/harsh. Still, everyone there speaks English as well. We use rubles here, one dollar being twenty seven rubels, but don't let it trick you. The prices here are just as expensive in the U.S if not more.
