Definitely not. Harry Potter is a phase I think. One that will eventually evaporate out of the viewers' and readers' minds. They might do a third one but I seriously doubt there will be any afterwards.

*Sighs* some people never learn. it's nothing like LOTR.
the whole thing may be more directed towards kids yeah, but at least the books are great.

Harry Potter will always be regarded as a major literary phenomenon. You can't erase history. And with a whole generation of schoolkids growing up on it it will be engrained in mainstream culture for many years.

If the film franchise fails it will be for technical reasons- because there sure as hell is the commercial pressure to do them! And if they can solve those problems the franchise has far more long-term potential than LOTR, which stops this year and nothing can be done about it. Harry Potter makes as much as LOTR and can go on for at least twice as long.

it could be me, but I'm get full of people bashing harry potter these days... every forum I visit has such a thread, it's getting on my nerves!
if people don't like it, don't open a bashing-thread about it!
I'm not gonna see it, do you see me making fun of it?

Minxy was excercising her rights as a poster I think. If she doesn't like it she is allowed to post as long as no personal attacks are exchanged between fellow posters. On the other side of the equation if someone does like the films or books they are within their rights to post as well. I am not trying to overstep any boundaries here but this is just what I think.

i think in 30 years from now, people will look at lord of the rings as a much greater cinematic achievment then harry potter, despite the harry potter series having sureley many more installments.

Emma, Dan and Rupert are only on contract for this next film... No news on whether they will re-sign for no.4 or if there will be new actors...

They are making another one then? Is this the third or fourth one we're talking about here? Those kids are going to be even older by the time the next one rolls around. Maybe newer actors are a good thing........

They're making a movie every year so the actors CAN get older, isn't that the point? They get older in the books, why not the movies? I thought Harry Potter 2 was WAYYYYY better then the first, and I'm excited for the third movie to come out~

lol

well about HP, I read the first book, really lost interest after that, too much stuff looks copied from other fantasy writters, the movies are just hyped way out of proportion, I'll never go and see them in my life
