what a f*cking waste.. hugh jackman was the perfect personification of wolverine.. sure he's not the duplicate when it comes to physical appearance, but the personality he's got down pat.. for PG-13 movies at least..
Ohhh, I will take that bet. Wolverine getting involved with a woman in Japan many years before joining the X-Men...they will see that as the perfect setup. Just watch.

I think the report has a couple of roles backwards. Hal Yamanouchi is a lot older than Hiroyuki Sanada; it's more likely he is playing Shingen, the patriarch of Mariko's family, rather than Yashida, Mariko's abusive husband. Sanada is closer in age to that role.
Other than that, Tao Okamoto as Mariko and Rila Fukushima as Yukio look like solid choices.
Little bonus: Will Yun Lee has been cast as the Silver Samurai.
Yashida is Shingen's last name, not the name of Mariko's husband. They've either split the character in two because they didn't think an old man beating Wolverine was believable (but then why bother with the Silver Samurai?), or they have cast an older and younger actor in the same role for obvious reasons.

Shingen is the one who faced off against Wolverine in the climax of Claremont & Miller's story. My point is, it should be the older of the two actors cast playing that role. Nonetheless, it probably won't happen the same as the comic because of the presence of the Silver Samurai, who wasn't in the original story. Logan will face off against him instead (and you're right - audiences wouldn't buy Wolverine getting beaten up early in the film, by an older man with a wooden sword.)
