Most controversial poster ad ever?

What does everyone make of this? Has the WWF made a really bad error of judgement with this?

Re: Most controversial poster ad ever?

I'm personally not offended, but it does seem they're going for the "look at us, look at us!" desperate approach.

Tsunami disaster was far worse than 9/11 death and damage-wise, but it was a natural disaster, other was a terrorist attack. Apples to oranges.

Edit: Also stupid from a money standpoint, as I think this could ony hurt thier incoming donations; not help. Proabably won't do neither though.

agreed, total apples to oranges

it does what it clearly attempts to do, which is grab attention, but any point they are trying to make is clearly outdone by the theatrics.

I find it a great poster. Sets things into perspective. And might be a good way for them to raise money.

I don't like the WWF too much personally, but I would almost definitely say that money is better spent on them than on wars.

How so exactly? When the massive damage the Tsunami caused was extensively covered, even in the US news outlets, which tend to give 2nd seat to anything non US related. I think everyone knows the damage.

It doesn't seem that way. I'm sorry, but 911 is thrown out of proportion constanly amongst many Americans. And anything that gives it some comparability (some, as you said it is a bit apples oranges) I do welcome.

Also, the poster looks badass.

From what I understand the WWF is actually now suing the group who made it for using their name without their permission, or something like that.

I don't have any moral problem with the ad, myself. The only problem is that it's an invalid and hyperbolic comparison.

Invalid I agree with but in what way hyperbolic? It isn't in the numbers because they're quite accurate. 300,000 dead or still missing and presumed dead.

So it's not the actual WWF that has made this...

I think it would be offensive to the victims and the families(unless every single one of them said they were fine with the poster, then fair enough but I doubt it), that tag line to me is coming across as the victims of that day were inferior to the victims of the tsunami. So what about the numbers, innocent people still died on that day.

Based on American sensibilities, I think Yoko Ono's add campaign for her Mother exhibit was much more controversial.

I like the poster. I don't think it's making any invalid statements... The use of 9/11 is just a shock factor.

What? How does it devalue them?

It simply says the tsunami killed 100 times as many people, which is entirely true.

Also does anyone else think this might be a threat? "Give us money or we'll have nature kick you ass."

I think you underestimate the WWF's weather control technology.
