I only played 3 of those games named here, and Arkham Asylum was the one I enjoyed most out of them.

Oh yeah. Arkham Asylum definitely wasn't "jack and shit", that's for sure.

Yeah, it was. I really do like the stealth aspect and how Westernized it is. Surprising how much Gears of War/Splinter Cell has influenced Japan's way of doing games.
I'm not saying it's just those two but it's clearly that both of those series heavily influenced two of Japan's developers biggest series in MGS and Resident Evil.
(it's strange that Gears of War came out after RE4 so both influences each other in a strange sense)

You don't think Splinter Cell didn't have any influence on MGS4?
Or how Gears of War had influence on RE5?
It's a fact that some Japanese companies are looking to western made games for influences, especially with big name titles.

The same is said for both. They both influence each other.

Actually RE4 had a cover system before Gears of War was even conceived.

Where?
EDIT:
As I said earlier, yes, that's true but considering MGS3 to MGS4 was a huge difference gameplay wise, it was clear it was influenced by Western games.

I really enjoyed Prototype: the story, the gameplay, missions, funness, etc.
It gets my number 1 spot, quite easily.
I did not like the clunky camera angles and the extremely unbalanced side quests that give you gold your first try on some, but give you bronze on others after many attempts: they could have done a bit more balancing on the mini-quests/events to make it to where Gold was more even, across the board, etc. I did not like that after killing a hive, it quickly came back. I did not like that you simply could not wipe out and cause one side to win over the other (human mercs vs. the infected). Despite all of hte shortcomings including some parts of the stories and bad camera angles when you are doing Parkour, it was still the most fun I had in any game, all year. I haven't played the new Mario game for the Wii, but I hear that's the funnest game of the year. (I play for entertainment AND fun.)
I look forward, greatly, to Prototype 2.
Other games I liked:
Dragon Age
Assassin's Creed 2 (this one was alright...liked the story and some of the smaller tidbits...but doing parkous can be frustrating as hell.)
I really don't see the big deal with MW2. I see no reason to even play the game. Yes, I have seen the game played for a total of 20 hours (my coworkers play it at times and I just watch.)

You're opinion is officially not valid in this forum.

It's a well crafted shooter.

I'd really like to try some CoD game sometime. There seems to be such a huge fuzz about it. And I did kinda like Battlefield and to some degree Medal of Honor.

I don't know if that's sarcasm or truth.
As I said before. There well crafted games. Similar to Blizzard, Valve, Nintendo (the primary), IW make really good games. You don't have to like the game but it's done really well.

How would sarcasm make sense.

It's difficult/impossible to soundly judge a game without actually playing it yourself. Try it, it's a fun game. The gunplay and setpiece battles are excellent, though it's by no means perfect.

While in sheer scope and variety of gameplay MGS4 is a lot more advanced and offered far more than previous games in the series (and a lot more than virtually every game out there), I wouldn't say it was so different from the other games in the series. It had similar usage of weapons and items, similar stealth gameplay mechanics, similar epic style boss battles, similar controls, similar storyline/gameplay ratio etc.. and the differences that there were can hardly be automatically attributed to the influence of the Western gaming industry let alone Splinter Cell (with which there are few similarities beyond elements that MG had already employed even earlier in time) specifically.
And the cover system has existed in shooting games before either the RE or GoW series utilised them and it's hardly that defining a feature of the RE games anyway, especially 5.

Influence doesn't generally mean it's completely retooled but I hate the previous games but I really enjoyed the 4th.
Putting it over the shoulder changes the entire game completely.
As for RE5, the cover system is used throughout the game and very important for half of it. It's a feature they designed in the game.

My game of the year, was out of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Resident Evil 5.
Modern Warfare 2 is fun, not fully to my tastes though.

Actually the most hilarious comment ever. For multiple reasons.

8. MGS4 - I know it came out in 2008
Then you'll know why it's out of place here, surely.
