Seeing as the New World has just been rediscovered by the time AC:B ended, I wouldn't be surprised to see AC 3 ancestor being in the US.

I have quarrels with the thought of it being France like GK said. No offense, it would be a good idea and we could hope for it, but it's too unlikely. Considering the fact that Altair and Ezio were the focus, my guess is a descendant of Altair. Who remembers Desmond's mind spasm in the hallway of the Assassin's make-shift hideout? AC 2 dropping hints? I like to think so >:3 still, I think the next Assassin would be somewhere away from their previous locations so Italy would be out of the question in that standing.

How is it unlikely? Ubisoft is picking periods in time that haven't really been covered much in video games, as well as periods in time that are very rich in history and also had a great deal of political intrigue and warring. Revolutionary France fits those perfectly. And it's not at all unlikely or odd that there'd be a descendent in France a few hundred years later.

I want a female ancestor, damnit.

How is an ancestor in France descended from Ezio any less likely than an ancestor in Italy descended from Altair?

bleh I don't want to be teamed up on again by you two but I'll state my opinion. They seem to want a new character with a new basic layout in each game. So it doesn't seem like they would go with a character from the same area as either of the two previous Assassin's. It would make little sense how they lay it out to say that he visited the past of two people from the same area. I imagine that it may be another Assassin in different sections of the world each time. The game isn't centered around Italy after all =\

But... France isn't Italy? I'm sorely confused.

lol but AC2 and Brotherhood are still quite a bit French involved. Though if you want to believe it will, who knows? They might just try it XD

Well...no, not really. Not at all in AC2; the presence of the French in Brotherhood mainly is because of the fact that Cesare Borgia had historically been allied with the French and even held French titles (Louis XII granted him a duchy in France). There's actually very little French involvement with the games so far.

Where does AC2 have anything to do with France?

Brotherhood has a skirmish with French soldiers occupying Castra Praetoria, but they were allied with Cesare and it's not really related to France itself. And then the multiplayer map in Normandy. That's... pretty much it. The series has had more to do with Spain and Portugal than France, given AC Discovery.

Keep in mind that we don't have to follow Altair and Ezio's lineage. If we assume Desmond is a descendent of Ezio and Altair on his father's side, his mother might also have Assassin ancestors from other parts of the world.

Since the apple Altair and Ezio dealt with has been recovered, they might very well start looking for unrelated ancestors in other places in the world (heck, they can even go further back in the past).

The Eagle Vision central to the games is a genetic thing in Altair's line, though, so we'd have to assume both of Desmond's parents to be those special Assassins, which is a stretch considering they're implied to be rare.

Ehhh, I don't really see it as being that much of a stretch. Two people with it is still incredibly rare, and I don't think it necessarily manifests in each generation.

If it did surely Ezio's dad could have figured out his friend was actually a Templar spy.

lol that's true. If Ezio's father had Eagle Vision, why didn't he use it to save him from the false trust of a friend who would eventually kill him D=

Well due to the Bleeding Effect giving the vision to Desmond, we can infer that it's a trained ability that must be used consciously. One of Subject 16's Glyph narrations states "Behold the Assassins, children of two worlds! Why do we have these gifts? Because it's in our blood!" which implies that the Assassin superhuman abilities like Eagle Vision are a genetic trait due to being descendants of those who came before. When Giovanni sends Ezio to recover his documents, he tells him to use his "special talent" to find the hidden door, indicating that he knew about the Vision and knew it could be used to find the door, which implies first-hand experience. It's very possible Pettruccio was using Eagle Vision to spot the feathers on the rooftops that he asked Ezio to gather.

All in all, the evidence implies Eagle Vision is a genetic trait in every generation. Giovanni just had no reason to use it around a trusted friend like Uberto.

Obviously.

Bit late at that point, though, right?

I don't exactly agree with GK's theory with Ezio's family and Eagle Vision, though stick out tongue

What a grumpy, obvious comment... but it does not really affect anything I said.

However, talking to Peach, as with any genetic traits it could well be recessive in most carriers, only available for use after training, or a dominant inborn talent. Perhaps it is simply more dominant in Ezio, Altair, Desmond, and Subject 16. The games don't really say anything definitive other than that it comes from Those Who Came Before.

It's pretty obviously a genetic trait; personally I'd say it's something that's recessive. The number of people who carry the trait for Eagle Vision could easily be quite large, but the number of people who actually have the ability would be much, much smaller.

Really, we only have a few cases to go off of. Altair, who was a fully trained Assassin but we don't know much about his life before the game; Ezio, who was able to use Eagle Vision without having any training or even knowing that his family were Assassins; and Desmond, who had the ability, but only after having been trained by the bleeding effect from the Animus.

Genetic traits allow for a great deal of variety in how they are expressed, and it's something they don't go much into depth about. However, I personally do not believe there's any evidence that anyone in Ezio's family other than him could use the Eagle Vision; more likely, the knowledge that such an ability exists and occasionally manifests itself in Assassins is something that they would have known about, so Giovanni would know what Ezio was able to do and see, even if he couldn't do it himself.

Good theory. Lucy didn't seem to know about it when they were escaping Obstergo, which she probably should if every generation had it, her being an assassin and all.
