I have a question about matches. My options seem to be the "Play" button which is a random play mode. Or creating my own player match or ranked match. And those never seem to fill for me (maybe just bad luck). Isn't there a way I can just say "join a Wanted match" or something? Because I went all of last night without a single Wanted match, which meant a LOT of Manhunt. Now, I enjoy Manhunt, but would like some variety.

Morph is cool right now, but I don't have better options for defense. I'm sure it'll be replaced by something once I level up some more. I feel like with the blender perk you could Morph a stationary group and then just chill nearby in a different group. Would mess up a lot of people. Anyway, Morph/Smoke Bomb is my defense until probably level 30 or so.

....getting better though. I'm usually lower than almost everyone in the matches right now, and manage to hold my own, especially on defense in Manhunt. Still getting the hang of killing. I lose a lot of contracts on wrong guesses and such.

Just so you know, when you press A (Rematch) after finishing a round of Manhount, you will only be queued for another Manhunt match, if you want something else simply exit and use Play Now again.

On the other hand, click Ranked/Player Match, choose Wanted from the dropdown menu and you should have a match in a little while.

Sometimes it takes a while to start a match when you go to Player/Ranked.

Or you can go to Play Now and keep backing out and doing it again until you come up with Wanted.

Kinda counter-intuitive compared to other multiplayer systems I've seen. There should be an option just to join a specific match type, instead of creating it and waiting.

Still, thanks.

Um, you are not supposed to create and wait...

Simply go to Player/Ranked, choose Wanted and search for a game, maybe a minute or two will pass, and you will enter a game. Then, since you are in the desired game mode, keep pressing A (or X on PS3 I'd guess) when viewing the final score after the round is up, to keep playing the same mode.

Every time I go to Player/Ranked it creates a new match. And then usually after a minute or two kicks me over to a nearly-full lobby.

Eh, maybe I just had horrible luck last night. After creating a match I literally waited about 15 minutes, jumping from map to map, and never had more than like 3 people joined up. I did that twice, then got frustrated and just went to random mode, which only gave me Manhunt or Alliance in dozens of attempts.

Again, I'm not complaining, I'm having great fun. I was just seeing if there was an easier way.

Well, yesterday they did also have server problems and they were doing more maintenance today. So that might have been part of it.

Not sure how this happened, but I've been listening to the same song just before I go and play AC:B

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTgnDLWeeaM

...it seems to get me in the mood to play. I've never been a huge MCR fan, but that song pwns.

Not terribly related, but when I realized I was doing this every time I played, I kinda lul'd and thought I'd share.

Ok, philosophical/strategic discussion:

1. What characters do you like/hate and why?

2. What maps do you like/hate and why?

...from a purely strategic perspective, Squidiish made a great point that I've also seen: The captain and blacksmith have very obvious fast walks. I've killed people from identifying the walk, so I know it plays a part. I love the blacksmith, and obviously you can play good or bad with any persona, but it's just impossible for me to justify him strategically. Captain's a tool, so screw him.

I like the hooded people. Smuggler or Prowler. I have a hard time distinguishing them personally, so it helps me to pick one, and I think they look cool. Smuggler is probably my favorite.

Most of the others are probably viable. I feel like the Priest is easier to identify than people think, his bald head always sticks out to me. Harlequin/Helliquin as well. My gut tells me that at some point a death would occur that wouldn't otherwise happen if I played as them all the time.

...

Maps are more subjective, and probably depend on playstyle. I hate Mont St-Michael and Monterigionni, love Castle Gandolfo, and enjoy San Donato. I'm indifferent to the others. I am, however, trying to develop a strategy for Mont St.-Michael that I think will work splendidly. Just haven't had enough reps since thinking of it to test it out.

Haha, sounds like you have similar tastes in maps as I do. I despise Mont St-Michel and Monteriggioni, and I think I dislike Pienza even more than those two. Castel Gandalfo is a favorite of mine, though GK thinks it's too small. San Donato is fun. Siena is my absolute favorite. Venice and Florence are good, and I'm starting to not hate Rome so much.

As far as characters, as I'm sure my signature and avatar make clear, my favorite is the Courtesan. I nearly always play her. If she's taken, I'll use the Hellequin or the Thief, depending on the map (certain characters fit better on certain maps than others - I like to play the Thief on San Donato and the Hellequin in Siena or Castel Gandalfo). If none of those three are available, I'll use the Smuggler.

I...pretty much only play the female characters.

And the Blacksmith is just hilarious to watch.

My favorite character, hands down, is the Doctor. Something about his birdlike movements, the complete coverage of his costume, the pointed mask and dark, soulless lenses of his eyes... he's something inhuman, killing efficiently because he always has, it's what he's meant to do.

After the Doctor, I cycle semi-randomly through Engineer, Blacksmith, Thief. Sometimes Smuggler. I'll occasionally play Prowler, only because no one suspects a walking Prowler is a player. The only ones I actually dislike are the Executioner, Captain, and Noble.

For maps, I seem to be best on Rome. 9 times out of 10, when I play in Rome I take 1st. I used to hate it, but after figuring it out it's probably my favorite. I also love Siena, Venice, and San Donato. Castel Gandolfo annoys me because it's small, but difficult to sneak up on runners. Florence... I don't hate it, but when I'm playing with roof runners it's bad. Same for Monteriggioni. Mont St.-Michel and Pienza are on the low end for me, as both heavily favor roof running.

Oh, Forli. I forgot that map. I actually quite like it, despite the fact that it's another map that heavily favors roof running. It's just the right size so that roofers have to go to the ground pretty quickly instead of staying up there all game.

I never remember the name of the maps, so can't say much.

As for characters, I don't really look at the character selection screen, I simply spam A to get through the selections as fast as possible. But if I had to choose.... then I guess I like the Barber's kill animations a lot, especially the quick slicing of throat with his straight razor, I have however noted that the Engineer somehow seem to blend into the crowd more easily (or I always screw up when my target is the Engineer at least).

Engineer looks too obvious to me. But I suppose there's nothing in particular about him that makes him stick out more so than others.

I figured Peach liked the hooker Courtesan. Not too hard to figure out there.

stick out tongue

Though in your defense, I also enjoy playing female characters in, well, pretty much any game. It's pretty much the only reason I prefer the Smuggler to the Prowler. Beardface is my #3, usually because I didn't get Smuggler/Prowler and just want to rage on some people.

There's a staircase (or series of successive staircases) on the one side of Mont St-Michel that basically runs the entirety of the "levels." It's far faster than the winding staircases. I think proper utilization of it would result in many frustrated pursuers and faster closing time to your contracts. Of course, if they chill on roofs it's still problematic. But the constant maze of the staircases in the "middle" of the map is avoided.

That....may not work. But it's a thought.

...

This is all well and good, but sucks when I still have no time. And when it takes me 2-3 matches to find a "groove" and I may not hit that point until 2AM when I can't find matches, my stats suffer and I never feel comfortable. Getting to 50 may take me a while. Been Manhunt-ing more recently though, I find that it's more steady points.

Apparently being the hunted on Manhunt is my calling. I'm not good yet, per se, but I have yet to have what I would consider a "bad" 5 minutes on defense. At least when my team isn't outnumbered 4-2 or something ridiculous.

Continues to wreck my kill/death ratio, but when I snag 4K+ points with, say, 2 kills, it's amusing. I have no idea why people don't camp in groups more often for easy periodic points.

I believe I had one of my best worst rounds yesterday, I only got three kills the entire match, no stuns and 9 deaths, yet I still finished first with 3800 points. I wish the game tracked what my best kill ever was, I can't remember how much it was, but it was a lot (more than 2000).

Also, is the new matchmakings tired to Templar Grade? I couldn't help but notice that one match five others and I were all Grand Masters, which kinda belied the point that Grand Masters are the top 5% (or whatever it was).

There was one time I got stuck in a 4-2 Manhunt match, on the 2 side. 10 minutes later, the two of us had won, and I had the most points out of any player. How? Stunning the shit out of people. That was fun.

I don't think matchmaking actively seeks out people around your level (it sure don't on unranked), but it makes sense that Grandmasters play more than others.

I had one of those matches. The game kept glitching and wouldn't assign me targets. Somehow, despite having no target for half the match, I finished with 5 kills, 4600 points, and 2 deaths. It was great.

I don't have Mute yet so it's hard to chain-stun sometimes. I get lucky with 2 in a row occasionally, but usually I try to Lure one, stun one, then run like hell until something's off cooldown. Morph seems to work well for me, because people enjoy charging in and attacking, well, something. I suppose it wouldn't work as well with more disciplined attackers, but I get a lot of Lure kills from just chilling.

Still can't kill well though. 3-4K points with 2-3 kills is my norm. I could ramp it up considerably if I managed to attack better.
