Star Trek Excalibur
I don't know if anyone else has heard of it, but a few years ago there was a little known Star Trek game called Star Trek: Bridge Commander. It is to this day arguably the closest (and best) representation of Starship Combat in a video game. It's been modded heavily, allowing you to do things like travel to different star systems (even to go to deep space nine and travel through the wormhole and face off against the dominion).
Anyway: The very talented modders a couple of years back realised that they had reached the limitations of the Bridge Commander engine and decided to make their own, free star trek game that will merge both ship combat AND FPS sections. If their mods are anything to go by, i have to say i'm optimistic.

Re: Star Trek Excalibur
The Star Trek gaming community is nuts, there's 10+ year old games that are kept alive and added to by them still. ST: Armada is another one, iirc.
When is this due to come out?

armada 2 is ok.
no idea, they've been working on it for a while, though, so it can't be far off.

I will kill for a FPS/Space combat/EVE style Star Trek game. With RPG elements.
I will give my first born to the Trekie gods.
