I'm touchy on this subject, I think only Ush and I posted a review of this film in the review section. It would be nice to add another.
BTW, before the film started (at the cinema and the DVD) there's was picture of a dog in a bow-tie and hat which came on screen. I don't know, why but me and my mates couldn't stop laughing at it.
I think we all laughed because the film was a horror and the title was "Dog Soldiers" and then this non-threatening dog in a hat and bow-tie comes on screen briefly and it seemed amusing to us.
I hope its on your copy BF, I really do.
BTW, my fave line in the film is, "........sausages......".
Never knew that. Though there were alot of zombie films prior to NotLD as well.
Actually the fact that you bring up I Am Legend is interesting because Vincent Prices Last Man on Earth came out in 1964.
Night of the Living Dead was 1968.
Though the infected in Last Man on Earth were more vampires than zombies.

That's true, pretty much what happened to Lucas. When you stick around too long, you're work can get muddled when compared to you're heyday. When a film franchise gets too big, it also gets weak. Pirates, Star wars, Indiana Jones, to name a few.
