Except when MS and Sony release a new console a year after the Wii U with even better graphics and capabilities.
In the end, the success of the Wii U depends on if gamers are willing to stop playing 360/PS3 and buy the new console, or the casual gamers buying it. It's pretty obvious but it doesn't matter what the graphics are.
Here's how to get people, especially older gamers to buy the Wii U. Bundle in a special limited edition game called "Super Mario Super All-Stars" or some such thing. Have it include the following on one disc:
-Arcade perfect ports of Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., and Mario Bros.
-The GBA version of Mario Bros.
-The All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros.
-The All-Stars version of The Lost Levels
-16-bit remakes of Vs. Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. Special, and the extra features from Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
-All-Stars and Advance versions of Super Mario Bros. 2
-The Advance version of Super Mario Bros. 3 including the battle mode from All-Stars, unlockable extra-items and features, and all the E-Reader levels.
-The Advance version of Super Mario World.
-The best high quality music for each game.
-Rumble support for each game.
-Local and wifi multiplayer for each game where applicable.
The Lost Levels and E-Reader levels alone should keep gamers occupied for a month or two.

I agree. They should do more collections like the zelda gamecube collection. It would add next to nothing to the cost and makes a great freebie. They need to do a double bundle with one being a collection game and one that exploits the Wii U gimmicks. Now there's a special treat!
I've mentioned this before but considering it's the most popular and best selling game in the series, it's ridiculous that no one outside of Japan has been able to legally play a complete version of Super Mario Bros. 3

I don't see how the Wii U will be able to attract 360/PS3 users, unless they are able to somehow get a hold of the better "hardcore" exclusives.
And to be honest, Microsoft's and Sony's R&D dept are most probably in the process of developing consoles that will far surpass everything in the Wii U's spec sheet.

You can always speculate on that but the fact is when such theoretical beasts come out. The fact remains that as it stands the Wii U is set to be released in a competitive time frame and you can't dismiss it by saying 'better things will come later'.

well the VITA can be used as a PS3 controller, so it kinds of steal some of Nintendo's thunder... even if it could be argued they're "copying it"
...and only if developers support it.
Well, in a shift form where we were before, rumours are now coming that Nintendo is in development issues here and the release date might be slipping later and later into 2012. Dangerous, of course, as the later it releases the more danger it is in of being close to any upcoming Xbox or PS release.
