For me its not about who he destroyed, its how he did it. It's the same thing for me as watching the fashion in how jon jones destroyed his opponents. He never dismantled anyone huge until he got to bader, but you could see how he'd do against higher level competition.
The fights where mel got choked out by diaz were before he joined up with greg jackson. From what i've seen so far, he's a completely new beast from those days. He's been working sub defense It would be difficult getting mel to the ground to grapple in the first place because his tdd is crazy now. He's taking on a sort of liddell style where his tdd makes every fight take place on the feet. Either way he's my top lightweight right now next to jmiller, and he's only getting better.
Jon Jones has been much more impressive than Guillard has as far as I'm concerned, and comparing the two is a little premature. Going into that fight with Roller, everyone, including me, expected that Melvin would totally dismantle Roller. I mean, prior to that flush punch that was landed on Tavares, Tavares was picking Roller to pieces on the feet, and he's nothing but a glorified submission specialist.
My point is that Frankie Edgar is infinitely better than Evan Dunham, Shane Roller, Jeremy Stephens (which was a controversial decision), Waylan Lowe, and Ronny Torres. He's also beaten much better competition. I mean just look at the way Penn was handling the top LW's he was going up against before facing Edgar. I'm not trying to say it'd be impossible for Guillard to pull a rabbit out of his ass and beat Frankie, but right now, he would have to be considered a huge underdog.
And when you mean your "top LW next to Jim Miller," I hope you're talking in the context of fighters rising through the ranks. Because guys like Maynard, Edgar, Alvarez, and Milendez are rightfully ranked above both of them.

He's a personal friend of mine, and he's fought in KOTC and in Desert Rage, which is a small Arizona-based promotion. He got his big break back in April in which he fought in the Prelims at Bellator 41 down in Yuma, and won the fight. Pretty soon he's gonna be signing with Bellator, so definitely keep an eye out.
He's undefeated: five and o. His style: Goju-Ryu Karate, Collegiate Wrestilng and Muay Thai.
His next fight is in September, in KOTC I believe. And after that, he's gonna sign on with Bellator full-time. So he should be making his Bellator debut on a main card either late this year, or early next year.

^Two shitfaced Mexicans; him and I celebrating with some friends after the fight.
By the way; I actually cornered for him for three of his fights.
Yeah By top LW's I didn't mean in rank. I mean I see that both of them have the skills to make it to the top. Maybe in the next two or so fights, mel will start looking a bit more like jones did, but you see my point. Mel would definitely be considered the underdog in a fight with edgar right now, no doubt. But its mostly because of their records. I just see him being a bad bad matchup for edgar specifically. This is just what I think, I'll stop with the off topic discussion Lol.
