Well, 'The Commonwealth' has a population of nearly 50,000 people. The community is SO large, in fact, that it has its own football, basketball, baseball, and soccer leagues... and also hosts rock concerts, lol:

Aside from that, issue #175 revealed that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Michonne's daughter is alive, and evidently lives/works in The Commonwealth.

I expected an advanced community. I didn't expect anything like this, though. blink

Seems like most of the Commonwealth's military has Mercer's back. He's pretty damn respected, so I could easily see him taking control of the community by force and appointing a new leader.
