Seriously, trailers show waaaayy too goddamn much these days. Less is more. If they'd just learn how to make the trailers more intriguing without showing everything, so much stuff wouldn't be spoiled.
I wonder how many people with only knowledge of comic book movies walked out of the Avengers thinking [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Why was Hellboy in the end credits?
Gender: Male Location: Balls deep in your cerebral cortex
I don't wanna declare this as being better than TDK 'cause I'm still amp'd, but it most definitely lived up to he hype.
First off, Michael Bay needs to take lessons from Whedon on how to integrate humor in an action movie. There were 3 or 4 genuinely hilarious lines in the movie and it never felt foolish like Transformers 2. The theater erupted in laughter a few times; i can't recall that happening in an action movie before.
Tony had some great moments, in particular the [SPOILER - highlight to read]: way the mark 7 armor was introduced was effin' spectacular... something i would have expected from a solo Iron Man movie.
Cap and Thor had nice showings and the main 4 (Banner, Thor, Tony and Cap) had really good chemistry, loved their banter and arguments.
Hulk was definitely the star though;[SPOILER - highlight to read]: Loved his showdown with Thor, the part when Hulk casually punched him out of nowhere was hilarious and true to character. I liked Ruffalo, he played the part Banner a little more... neurotic, (i guess you'd call it) than Norton did and i didn't mind the switch at all. One of the best parts in the movie imo was [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Hulk absolutely wrecking Loki ragdoll style, then walking away with swag and dropping a "Puny God" line.
Widow and Barton were largely unimpressive, but served a purpose in the story and didn't detract from the movie. The one thing i didn't like is that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: they mentioned Jane, gave a good amount of screen time to Solvig, Hill and Colson... but there wasn't even the slightest mention of WAR MACHINE! It didn't hurt the movie in any way, and i knew from IMDB etc that he wouldn't be in the movie, but i found it very odd that no one even acknowledged his existence, or better yet acknowledged his absence from the fight. A simple 2 second joke about him not being their from Tony would have sufficed.
All in all, it was outstanding and I'll most likely see it one more time in theaters.
I enjoyed the film, but Loki was just so weak... I never felt he was really a threat to any of the Avengers. He is supposed to be a master of magic yet in this movie and in Thor he mostly relies on his staff to do a little pew pew and then engage in melee combat with it.
I felt if he was going to be the main villain against all of the Avengers, we should have a sense that this guy should not be messed with - I didn't feel that at all. Thor, Hulk or Iron Man could've taken him alone. He relied on the army, which wasn't really a threat either, the only problem was the unending waves and civilians being killed.
It would've been easy to give him a few showings with some badass spells (I don't mean one or two minor feats with illusions), I'm disappointed they didn't.
I would've loved to have seen Loki or some other villain showing they are a truly force to be reckoned with (not just in terms of scheming), that would require the combined might of the Avengers to defeat.
LOL I completely forgot he even existed until you just brought him up! Doesn't really make sense he didn't come to help IM against an alien invasion does it?
Not sure about that.
