Also, in the "Mass Effect" future, nano-bots being present make the whole "immune system too weak" excuse a stupid illogical one.

Nano bots are present?

How much paint did I drink to miss this?

Shut the **** up. I know exactly what her face looks like under the mask and she looks like Fozzie from the Muppets. I have empirical evidence.

You could be correct. I could have sworn that the medical technology in Mass Effect made mention of using Nanobots to heal wounds.

I could of sworn Medigel was the substance used.

Granted, I forget the properties of Medigel.

I think he's talking about a few of the upgrades you can get in ME2. I think a few involve nanobots.

Cerberus tech can bring people back from the mother****ing dead.

It's not exactly available for public usage, lol.

Hmm....suprise nobody has mentioned the Girl Kratos from Heavenly Sword here.

Though I think I am leaning towards The Boss in terms of badass female characters from video games. I'd put Lightning in here but the majority says that she's a complete *****, so I won't.

Or maybe the Quarians can't afford it because they are poor space gypsies.

That is kind of the same thing, only to an even greater extent.

If normal citizens of the galaxy lack the resources to acquire nanotechnology, how will poor space gypsies? sad

Hmm. I just have a hard time imagining that only Cerberus has this kind of technology; it's not that powerful or wealthy, at least not enough to make it more technologically advanced than the major species of the galaxy. I'm pretty sure that the major hospitals on the homeworlds have this kind of stuff. The space gypsies just aren't allowed there.

I don't know if you noticed, but most of the galaxy's technological progress is based around Reaper technology, or rather Reaper technology that the Reapers want us using.

Most think that only noobs try to develop technology that doesn't run on Reaper tech.

Not only that, but that body was damaged from floating in a vacuum (probably got cold). The micro-cellular damage can only be repaired with medical nanobots because it requires very minute and precise repairs.

The Quarians have some of the most advanced non-Geth tech. They also have had such tech for hundreds of years (they border on AI with some of their VI crap). And yet they have not developed nanobots OR gene-therapies to improve their immune systems? Check it out: gene-therapy is allowed in the Alliance if it is for improving existing features. Why don't they just get a group to develop a gene therapy for them so they do not have to run the risk of death at the slightest suit breach?

For me, it was one of those things that happens in a "sci-fi" game. Star Trek is notorious for writing itself into technology driven PIS. Quarians not taking advantage of the various galatic gene therapies OR using nanobots to augment their immune system is quite stupid. Sure, reviving the dead from space absolutely requires nanobots (or a reconstituting transporter (like from star Trek but it is medical)), but improving the immune system does not require very advanced nano-tech. We actually are doing that now, a humans: we are designing nanobots that can destroy specific types of cancer cells. That's an "immune system" boost once we get it to the market. So why would the Quarians, who are vastly technologically superior to where Humans are now, having trouble improving their immune systems? Why are they using "80s" antibiotics to clear their systems? Hmmmm? Hmmmmmm???????? HM samdflaksjdf;lkj asdl;fkj as d;flkj

Well, I'm done. Tali is hot. She's handy and she's badass to have on your team. Not the most badass, but she's good.

Remember the early humans almost didn't get inducted into the Alliance because they were dabbling in Gene Therapy too much? They were messing around with species (like Nazi experimenters...but with less killing) and trying to make them smarter (I think they were trying to make monkeys or apes smart like humans...don't remember). So, basically, you're right: the Alliance tries to stifle technological progress. Only when Krogan's threaten the galaxy does the Alliance allow the Salarians to develop such techs.

So, basically, Ray Kurzweil would be a hated "prophet" in the Mass Effect future. lulz

Yea, but Reaper tech is extremely advanced. Like millions of years advanced. Besides, Cerberus either directly or indirectly bases their stuff on Reaper tech, too. EDI is a good example and I bet that miracle medical machine is also.

EDIT: Well, the Mass Effect universe would prove Kurzweil wrong or at least very off in his predictions.

Not really. They do not appear "magical". Or at least god-like. You know..the "sufficiently advanced beyond humans" statement about them appearing like magic.

They appear, at best, maybe 100 years off from where humans are currently. I don't want to say "never"...but...most likely nothing will ever travel faster than light on the macroscopic scale. It is part of sci-fi but it will probably never happen.

Not really: Ray predicts those things, like the AI singularity, to occur only if social policies are not implemented to curb them....like what the Alliance does (and did to the Geth/Quarians).

Kurzweil would be considered a terrorist and an instigator with his transhumanist (transapientnist...technically...) philosophies.

No, the Reapers don't appear magical or somehow incomprehensibly superior(even though they certainly enjoy acting that way), but the fact is that they are literally millions of years older than any other race currently existing in the Milky Way galaxy(save perhaps for the Keepers, but even that's doubtful). Now how that translates into actual scientific and technological progress... that I don't know. Your estimate of 100 years might as well be correct.

I wonder whether the Geth, the Protheans, or the Reapers curb(ed) these kind of policies? In the case of the Reapers, I severely doubt it.

I understand where your "millions of years" statement is coming from, now.

But, yes, the Reapers would have to, as a necessity, curb technological growth to something less than about 50-70 years off from where humanity is, now.

Additionally, the entire premise of Mass Effect requires you to not think logically. With trillions of sapient organisms in the galaxy, it would be quite easy for a small remote scientific group to develop and highly advanced AI that would make the Geth look pathetic. We, as humans, are supposed to do this in a 2 to 3 decades (unless we have some "Alliance-like" policies.). The Geth are actually quite...lame compared to what true AI would do. It is possible that with their sentience, they chose stagnation. So I could be wrong. We don't truly know how a real AI would work AFTER it surpasses our ability to understand it.

Meh, I like Mass Effect. Makes you think about what is in our very near future. You and I will be alive when God-Like AI comes into being. Meaning, it will just know so much about the universe that it will appear god-like in sentience. That's slated for around 2050 based on current technology growth models.

So let's play the sh*t out of our games before we are assimilated into the AI hive mind. sad

Apparently there are individuals, companies, organizations, etc. secretly working on AI. EDI and Overlord are a few examples. Also that credit-stealing AI on the Citadel in Mass Effect 1. I suppose AIs in the Mass Effect universe are portrayed to be more dangerous and unpredictable rather than godlike.

Yeah, we're going to see some seriously awesome shit in our lifetimes. Hopefully.
