You have to take into consideration that the Midgard Serpent was originally destined to be the one to kill Thor, or at least, prior to Fraction's retcon of sorts. The fang of the Serpent, which I'd assume is coated in the venom which causes Thor to die originally, is basically akin to "kryptonite" for Thor. It would likely hurt anybody else it struck or possibly kill them, but the symbolic/preordained/destiny factor of what the fang represents should be more dire to Thor than anyone else, imo.
