First thing I did after installing the game is customized the shit out of my keep.
Edit - Anyone having troubles with the controls on PC? I don't want to have to hold down a mouse button to look. I swapped the mouse buttons. I also made "a" and "d" straffe instead of turn.
Your strategy is to pick your moments to fight, when to get in and when to get out. The DWR is not about just auto attacking or spamming skills. Stealth helps a lot. Let your tank/warrior initiate and tie people up. Position yourself behind or to the side of your enemy and strike at them. If you gain the aggro then stealth out to have a clean get away.
Cunning and Dexterity are the skills that will help you the most. Passives that give you those stats are really useful. Cunning increases your crit chance, while Dexterity increases your overall damage so remember that when forging and crafting armor and weapons. Subterfuge and the Dual Daggers tree are the only ones you need to use. Could put some in the Sabotage tree if you want to put poison on your weapons, but not necessary nor optimal.
It's going to be a long road and you're going to feel like you're not doing much. It may feel boring but as you progress you will be a killing machine. Flank Attack is a great move to start out with. It gives you a gap closer, you position yourself behind the enemy (unless you activate it while already behind them.) and it's added bonus perk will automatically stealth you. I only used Twin Fang in the beginning and it felt weak and useless since I could never really nail it's combo conditions so I'm not sure how good it is further down the line, but the passive ability under it is really good. Never be afraid to take a passive over a new move when leveling up, at least when it comes to the DWR.
Spinning Blades is my favorite move and with the upgrade perk it has a good chance to knock your opponent down which would allow you to do more damage with Twing Fang. Right now, my little combo is Flank Attack>Spinning Blades>Twin Fang (Just added this skill again to my moveset as I'm typing this.)
Specializations will change up your style as well. Most DWRs are either Assassins or Tempests. Tempests can be really fun with the Elixirs. Thousand Cuts is a beastly move and synergizes well with your Dual Dagger kit. Flame Elixir makes your abilities either cost no stamina or they have no cooldown. Either way, it's a good move . Just checked on it and Flame Elixir/Flask of Fire makes your moves cost no stamina and have no cooldowns if you fully upgrade it. Ice Elixir makes anyone who gets near you or attack you (not sure which off the top of my head) gets frozen, it's upgrade taunts them to attack you. Frozen enemies will take more damage and they will be stuck there so you can reposition yourself to attack their flanks. The Subterfuge Tree won't be as heavily needed or reliant to make this specialization work but Stealth is still a good way to get out of sticky situations.
The Assassin is the way I'm going, it's also good. It deals with single target damage, exposing their weaknesses, hit and run tactics. This tree relies more heavily on the Subterfuge tree, but that's not a bad thing. You can put people to sleep and attack them. Mark of Death and Hidden Blades would be your bread and butter of that tree. You'll deal a lot of damage.
To shorten that all up go with Assassin if you like stealth, hit and run tactics, debilitating your opponents and you like the quick and flashy movements.
Go Tempest if you want to be more in the fray, spam moves and kill indiscriminately.
All that being said, I'm still new and claim to be no expert so any or all of my advice may be wrong. I am playing on Hard and right now my Rogue is doing fine in fights.
I might be a human Rogue next playthrough just to see how differently I'm treated. They took out the Race-centric Epilogue which I used to love in Origins, but they kinda brought it back laced throughout the game depending on who you are.
Yeah, a lot of people don't like or won't accept you as a Herald of Andraste if you're an elf. You also get a special dialogue choice when you accepting your title as Inquisitor. My Elf even asked if they were sure if they knew what they were doing when suggesting that he should be inquisitor.
Mother Giselle also gets concerned and talks to you and Dorian if she thinks you're gay for each other.
They do the same thing if you're Qunari, even though you're technically Tal-Vashoth, a Qunari who has broken away from or never abided by the Qun. Which means all "proper" Qunari either treat you like dirt or try to kill you. I've had people claim I'm using my title as Inquisitor and Herald of Andraste to subtly convert people to the Qun, lol.
So I've heard a lot of really negative things about the Sera character. Lots of peeps seem to hate her quite a bit and think her accent is horrible? It sounds ok to me, but has anyone playing felt like strangling her or something?
Like, possibly facetious, but:
"I literally vomited when sera showed up. I threw up on my controller. The thought of someone not actually being disgusted by that character makes me cringe. And then have the patience or the stomach to put up with this character and interact with them long enough to have a romance with said character... It boggles the mind "
Her accent is heavily cockney I believe. And while her accent is weird, it doesn't really bother me. It just sounds odd against all the American, "Proper" British, Spanish/Antivan, Nevarran, Tevinter, etc... accents. Basically her accent is so out there compared to the others it sounds off imo.
As for the character herself. She is kinda annoying and pretty naive and uncompromising. She's probably one of my least favorite companions overall, but she does have some rather funny moments.
Sera isn't a bad character, she's a bit generic within her archetype. Anarchist/defender of the little guy, has the little accent that a lot of Americans will feel is annoying. She's not a traditionalist nor cares for the "old" ways of elves. She whoops the absolute shit out of that noble guy if you let her. I don't dislike her but I don't love her. She's a decent character.
What I really miss is the alienage elf background. That was my favorite to start in Origins. Best example of "Started from the bottom now we here." Thedas' view on elves is the main reason why I pick them. They're not equal, barely tolerated and there are plenty of prejudice people against them. As you know, I'm Black as well so it fits and makes me feel great when the heroes of this world are of that shunned race.
I feel like the Qun has allusions to Islam, not in a bad way though, or at least outsiders views on the Qun and Qunari.
Qunari are treated sort of similar. They are seen as less than Humans or Dwarves, but more than Elves only because the "Ox Men" are giants who kill entire groups of people on average with no problems. And they are all mostly super militaristic, unyielding, uncompromising, etc... People are more afraid of Qunari than disdainful, but they still treat them like crap.
And I get that as I'm black too.
As for the Qun...you're right. A lot of the tenents of the Qun are super authoritarian. Qunari don't have parents. They're born then raised by dedicated guardians basically. And as you grow up, a job/life is decided for you, and you have no choice but to follow it. "Hey kid, you look like you'd be a good shit shoveler...congrats on your new job."
I hear playing as an elf in the game is highly recommended and well done. Doubly so to see all the Chantry folks lose their shit if you're an elf AND a mage! [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Like, apparently theres riots, lol. Plus I've heard the Solas romance is excellent.
I find them unattractive. I see them as the British equivalent of the American Southern accents (specifically, Newer Southern). It immediately makes me think they are stupid.
It's an ignorant prejudice of mine, I know.
Nah. Seems great. The only think wrong with the controls is you have to hold down your mouse button to look around. After about 5 minutes, you get used to it and don't even notice. But it would be nice to just be able to move the mouse and see where you are going instead of having to click.
Normally, on the rest of the internet, you get the option to like or upvote a comment you liked. Instead, I have to type out this post to tell you that I liked your post, here.

[SPOILER - highlight to read]: The Dragon on Dragon Island is bad news. This thing isn't just tough, it puts up a stone defense to stop you from getting at it's base armor. And it electrifies the ground. I found that when it does this your best bet is to stand on the bedrock that litters portions of the battlefield. The only problem with that is that your party will not follow you to safety, and they wind up gulping down all of the healing potions to compensate. Since I'm on level 19, and could only take off about 30% of it's health I figure that I should be able to destroy the beast by level 30.
Here's a strategy tip: make heavy use of tactical pause and give commands to your party to run to certain spots and "hold position" until you're ready to attack, again. Sure, the fight will last much much longer but it is a way to keep them from drinking all the potions.
I dont think sera is badly written at all. Shes a different kind of elf, and it works for her. The problem like i said before is her accent. I hear it so much on tv over here in british soaps that its become somewhat grating to me. When i was in canada i found a lot of people liked those accents so im sure there's a novelty to it.
the pc pot isnt bad imo. Its actuallu good bar a couple of control issues.
