Probably because most MGS fans are interested mainly in the single player component. I know I have only a very minor interest in FOB and you get one for free in the game anyway. So it honestly doesn't really effect me all that much. But yeah, it is pretty BS especially since they are charging like $80 or something ridiculous to get enough coins to unlock all of them.

That might be true.

I have a problem because they have been promoting the idea of the FOB and how you can create anyway you like and they can have different functions and in the end, you need to spend like $100 bucks to get them.

Also, I heard it affects how fast you can can get upgrades and such because they have different functions. If that's the case, it's double bullshit.

Started playing it.

Fantastic prologue. Absolutely fantastic. In previous games, there would be about 20 cutscenes with about a minute of player control and it would still be kind of cool.

Luckily, the devs decided people like playing games and gave you control for various parts of the prologue which deepened the connection you have with the story and totally immerses you in the experience. I ****ing hope this continue throught out the game. Lights year ahead of MGS4. Instead of hitting LT to see up a girls skirt, you get the move your head around and for some reason, the effect is much more impactful.

Overall, enjoying the game so far. Have about 3 hours worth. There is a few things that annoy me (seeing the credits for every ****ing mission you play) but it's pretty small.

Havent really played the mgs games since I owned a 360 before but im a sucker for stealth games. The early demo really impressed me.

Havent watched much of the game outside that desert mission.

Is it level/map based or is it completely sandbox?
How big are the maps?

Are the weapons fully costumizable?

Which previous games could you compare it to?

If its anything like the latest Splinter Cell game I must get it.

There is two maps (similar to how Shadows of Mordor did it) and they feel quite sizable.

You have a base of operations on a oil platform and you chopper into the two maps. It's a sandbox but there doesn't seem to be a lot to do throughout the map without involving missions. It's not Watch Dogs or GTA in that regard. There is main missions that take place in certain locations and side ops that does as well. You can free roam but I'm unsure why you would do that. There is materials, diamonds and other things you can grab that help you build up Mother Base (your base of operations).

In the end, your basically completing story missions and side ops to help build your base up. This works into the customization. I'm pretty sure you can't customize your guns like you can in Far Cry and etc but you can upgrade mostly everything you use in the game to different levels. This is based on your Mother Base research level, support level, cash and materials you get. Each level gives you different things like better accuracy, more damage or crazy things like your fulton system turning into a teleport.

I would compare the game to Far Cry but with much more stealth approach. The first mission you take on (which is the preview) is eliminating a captain in a village. I dropped in during the night (there is a day/night cycle), found high ground, zoomed and marked all the guys I saw. Slowly crept in, took out a few guys and fultoned them up to get rid of the bodies and use them on base (but the guards can still see the guns that were dropped) and saw the captain inside. I slowly crept in and took him out with a tranq gun and picked him up to get him out and use him on the base. During that time inside, a few guys saw something and I hid behind a bed and they left. While that was happening, a sandstorm started to happen which allowed me to quickly walk through the compound with the guy on my back and nobody could see me. I called the support chopper in, found a landing zone and put him on the chopper so I could use him on my base. I was going to fulton him out but there was 30% survival rate so I thought it would be best to get him on the helicopter. The sandstorm was cool but I know it was a scripted event because I reloaded once and it happened at the same time.

It's hard to say if its like Splinter Cell. The prologue showcased how a mission might be but Splinter Cell is a very scripted story experience. Don't get me wrong, I love Splinter Cell but it's not as open as this game. MGS has a ton of little tricks you can do (not sure if they are meaningful or not) while Splinter Cell has its stealth gameplay nailed down tight (which is a good thing). Personally, if you thought the demo was damn cool then I'm pretty sure you will like the game. There hasn't been an open world game with this type of stealth mechanics. Far Cry had it but it was pretty standard stuff.

If you like stealth, you will probably like it.

And I never played MGS until the 4th one but it doesn't feel like one (aside from bat shit crazy stuff).

When I dropped the guy off on the heli, nothing really happened. The chapter is over screen happened, a bunch of shit was unlocked and then I was back on the ground. In MGS4, there would of been 4 cutscenes.

I find the controllers more complicated than they should have been. And some odd decisions that kind of ruin the fluidity of transitioning from being on foot to horse etc.

I also find myself failing at every possible turn lol. Maybe its just me having to get used to a Metal Gear again. Combined with my unfamiliarity with the Xbone's controller.

At times the game makes me rage...but I haven't been able to put it down. So that says something.

I agree. I don't remember having to take this long to get used to the layout when I played Ground Zeroes on PS4. Still I can't just ignore the fact I'm not that familiar with the Xbone controller. I really dislike the rb and lb buttons. I wonder why they decided to change them. They were fine on the 360, and the only downside was that they were prone to breaking/messing up.

Both are excellent games and you can't go wrong with either one, but they are very different. It really comes down to whether you want an RPG or a stealth/action game.

Personally, I prefer MGSV.

Yeah, the horse is literally the worst controlling horse in any game that has horses in. It almost ruins the immersion when I'm jumping over cliffs 15 feet high. I guess it is a good thing though because if the game killed you after falling, you would never use the horse because it's so damn rocky.

Xbox One LB/RB buttons aren't the greatest but I kind of just slip my fingers from the LT/RT buttons and I usually don't have issues. Unless I need to hold down the button for a long time and that's happens in this game with the bino's. I wish you could just click the RB button to bring them up instead of constantly holding it down. Considering you could spend a minute or so looking around, it's gets pretty annoying.

I have rage a little bit with this game. This would be rectified if the checkpoint system wasn't so strict or at least allow you quicksave or something. After spending 20-30 minutes slowly sneaking around, having a guy who couldn't seefrom afar kill you with three shotgun blasts and then needed to restart the entire section again can be frustrating. Just for a side op, I slowly sneaked into that compound where the first mission takes place in (the spetzna commander one) and getting caught a few times by guys I couldn't see was pretty annoying. And then have to restart the entire thing was even more annoying.

It doesn't help that you haven't really unlocked any of the really good gadgets that will help you.

The horse is so awful. It pisses me off so much. I cannot understand why we can't just sprint the same way we do with Big Boss. Instead we switch back to Ocarina of Time levels of play.

Yeah my big issue with the shoulders is with the binoculars. Being forced to hold that trigger down in the first place is just...so annoying. I didn't. Like you I wish we were given the option to toggle them on and off by just pressing them. The same happens with stuff like holding people down with cqc and interrogating them. It leaves so much room for error and in a game where one critical mistake or slip up can mess up 30 minutes of careful meticulous planning....it gets stupid annoying. I agree with the checkpoint point.

Just steal the mechanics from Red Dead Redemption. Navigating with the horse was a breeze and was actually kind of neat.

I never used CQC in Metal Gear Solid 4. It was pretty unwieldy but in this game, it's pretty easy to figure out.

I always thought Mother Base was a cool mechanic and I still think its neat but it's not what I envisioned. It's cool that you need to get resources and people to get these unlocks but they dole out upgrades at a very slow rate.

I have been playing for about 15-20 hours and I feel like I have been attacking same bases with the same ****ing two guns.
