Microsoft released a video of the 3d projection gameplay. They however didn't say it was going to be in the new xbox. I have a funny feeling it will be unless they are making two gaming consoles though. It looks interesting but I hope its able to be turned off. I feel like it will get old honestly.
"An in-depth report from veteran tech blogger Paul Thurrott on Windows IT Pro elaborates on several topics Thurrott covered earlier this month including the next Xbox’s pricing, release date, operating system and more."
He's not from MS so his statements carry no weight.
And Origin, but you wouldn't consider current PC gaming next gen? Even though, and for a couple of years now, it's already had far more advanced state of the art hardware and software superior to these upcoming next-gen consoles. What about Steam's Xi3 Piston or the Ouya. Those are next gen and are considered pc gaming machines more so than consoles.

"Next Gen" applies as much to games as it does to the machines they're played on, imo. So PC in and of itself can't be called next gen until the games catch up.
I agree with Peach. Kinda be definition, PC stuff can't be next gen because 'generation' is a concept for console release cycles. PCs can be ahead of the generation, of course, but they can't actually create a new one.

Yet it's components can be next gen? For example the GeForce gtx 780's due this month. I consider it a next gen graphics card. Intel goes by generations, as well. But a PC can't be generational.
Surely a pc that you can buy or make now will be more powerful than one made 5 years ago.
And don't consoles evolve, as well? Microsoft eventually added the Kinect overtime and will probably have it built in with next gen xbox.

And once it's built in, it's definitely part of a generational leap, but it is unlikely history will consider add-ons like that in the same way.
Intel generations do exist but they would be tracked separately from console ones. When people say 'next-gen', other than vaguely meaning 'stuff in the future', the general assumption is that it refers to console generations. PCs don't really go leap by leap like that; they go up in gradual increments.
Which, btw, is an irritation on review sites and places like Gamefaqs, because the 'PC' sections there are becoming increasingly huge and unwieldy, containing all games over the last 15 years or so.

Sure, a PC you build now would be more powerful than one five years ago. But a PC built last year would also be, as well as one built three years ago, as well as one built three months later. That's kind of how PC technology works. It doesn't have the massive leaps in tech that consoles do. There's always some new upgrade becoming available, or dropping in price enough to be a viable upgrade for someone on a budget.
PCs work on small, constant changes, whereas consoles work on sudden large changes every several years. It's very, very different.
Ok, well I see that the forum is called "Computer/Video Games Discussion" yet I don't think I've ever seen a dedicated forum made specifically or at least mainly talking about PC Gaming.
Maybe I should create it ...

Intel has generations. Same with videocards for both AMD and Nvidia. But they're not released at the same time. So is it next gen when Nvidia releases a new series, or is it next gen when Intel released a new CPU version. It evolves. Two years from now, my awesome computer I have will be out of date but I can still play most games that are released. That is not the case in consoles.

no but I think they are going to sort of drop out of the console business but keep the Handheld thing.
Or at least imo they should until they have a truly revolutionary new console to put out and a better game selection list....which is something that has been killing them if you ask me.
