Yeah, Abrams knows how to do big. He captures the scope and magnitude of the Enterprise ships and those cities. Everything felt big and real. The space jump from one space port to the other was ingenious and rivaled if, not better, than the space dive onto the drill on the first. Even the fight scenes were well choreographed unlike say Nolan, who is great visually, but terrible with fight scenes.
Loved this movie. Khan stole the show indeed and was more dangerous than Nero. Nero's ship, however, was much scarier than the Drednought. Sulu and Chekov didn't do a lot in this one though; they should give them more time on the next one. So far, I think the is the movie to beat this summer in terms of quality. Let's hope Abrams comes back for the last installment. If he does and the last one is as good as the first two, this will be the best trilogy ever made imo. Batman was so close but I was annoyed by the plot holes of the 3rd one.
I agree that Nolan is terrible with fight scenes. The fights from the Batman films were always huge letdowns.

Really fun flick, kept me interested from start to finish. Cumberbatch did good in the role, was pleased. Looking forward to JJ's 3rd venture in ST, if he's scheduled to do it.
-Lens flare was overly annoying at times. I understand it's JJ's trademark, but some scenes were WTF stupidly flared.
-Felt he might have left some things a little too vague, too rushed or not developed enough for non Star Trek fans who don't have knowledge of the older films.
-I see some people felt there where too many nods to the show/older films, but I found them all highly amusing. Spock [SPOILER - highlight to read]: yelling Khan was epic lolz.

Not sure if he's on board for a third. He's going to busy with Episode VII now.

It's world-wide gross will be much bigger. It will make over $500m at the ww box-office, which is amazing for Star Trek.

So is the 3D worth it?
I'd just see it in 2D. Only reason I saw it in 3D the first time is because that's what my friends had decided so I just said to hell with it. The 3D isn't bad but I preferred the 2D myself.

Yes, which proves more action and new approach is better than the old one.

Dude. The original series was a team that spent a 5 year mission to explore new worlds.
The threats the original team met were far worse than the new films. Due to the fact that it took early members with knowledge from a future Spock to defeat their threats.
How anyone can even remotely compare the two is simply mean.

Not at all. New threats are far more worse than older threats. Need help from a future Spock whereas the original crew could do so on their own.

Doesn't look like it's going to achieve that much atm.

The better days
I still remember how excited I was going to see Undiscovered Country as a kid. Then First Contact when that came out... I remember waiting so long for it to come out on VHS at the time that I was chomping at the bit.
Then Nemesis had to go and **** it all up.

I hope your right. I want more sequels. But it's opening weekend seems to be less than the Original which didn't make $500mill WW. Not even 400.
