So I’ve put in quite a few hours in and gotta say, it’s refreshing to play a game that not only lives up to the massive hype but surpasses all expectations. This game in phenomenal; it's the best of it's genre I have ever played surpassing even Skyrim.
The world is massive. I’ve put in probably well over two dozen hours but I’ve only gotten to the second area and explored far less than half of it. The big reason for that is I actually want to explore everything, unlike so many games the loot you can get is great or better yet you could stumble upon a place of power and get a free skill point. But what I’ve really enjoyed, like the others here, are the side quests. Most of them are more compelling than the main quests from other fantasy RPGs. For example, one side quest I got from a random villager in a small town was supposed to involve me going to her estate to help her with a monster infestation, but I ended up helping a major character from the 2nd game [SPOILER - highlight to read]: (Letho) fight against her/her pursers instead. Unfortunately, I screwed up and said character has to go into hiding [SPOILER - highlight to read]: at Kaer Morhen where he presumably will play another role later in the game. Of all the side quests though contracts are my favorite. You really feel like a monster hunter as you pierce together clues to figure out what kind of monster you are facing and how best to kill it. And the best part is they all end with a boss fight.
Oh, and then there is Gwent. Seriously, play Gwent. It's ridiculously fun and addicting.
I'm playing on the PS4 as well. Experience is fine. The framerate does dip in certain areas a bit (swamp areas, mostly), but it's still playable and a patch is on the way to improve framerate more. The text is small though, but that is also something they're going to fix.
Five years ago I would be like, "**** yeah!" but in the end, one of my favourite gaming experiences was playing Half Life on a piece of shit machine and not caring so in reality, it's about the game and not the resolution. As long as the game is perfectly reasonable looking with a good framerate, I'm starting to not care it's an ultra. I got shit to pay for.
