The movie was gawd-awful, but in a fun way. I left the theater not missing my 26 dollars.

Reeeaaally could have been better though. Like, even by "mindless action/adventure movie" levels, it could have been better. Ironically, the acting wasn't bad, and neither was the dialogue (sans Riddick's, way too much cheese). The characters were all pretty smart and entertaining for the most part, too. But my god, the story was all over the place, the fighting scenes were bland and uninspired, and the CGI creatures were disappointing.

Also, Riddick himself is reaching Gary Stu levels in this franchise. His fight against Bautista literally ended with an asspull.

And don't be fooled into thinking this is anything like Pitch Black. The monsters only become a focus of the movie in the last third of it, and unlike the creatures in Pitch Black, these things get mowed down effortlessly. They're not nearly as threatening or omnipresent as the things in Pitch Black.

I really liked Starbuck's character, but she suffered from being in a cast that was way too large.

Tickets for 3.

We don't all go to movies alone and jack off in the front row.

Used to love Riddick, but I'm too humble to put myself in his shoes anymore, then Dahl (one of the hottest chicks I've seen) starts acting awed by him saying something about pink and then goes from lesbo to total whore for no reason.

Just sayin.

What I like about Riddick is the Sci Fi, the action, the recon/scouting/forensic investigation and especially the gritty survivalist tactics and social dynamics. I like the music, the desolate scenery. It is my cup of tea.

I wish Vaako and Riddick would go toe to toe and prove equals. Then it would be neat if they sort of become allies against a greater enemy, Vaako would aid Riddick in one final film as a good guy, before Riddick dies. Vaako should be the last man standing, transcendent.

i actually liked it. It wasn't better than pitch black but it really capture the original feel of Riddick - an intergalactic Bear Grylls assassin.

I liked the film the first time. Saw it again, though, and it was waaaaay better. Another fantastic installment in the series as far as I'm concerned. Definitely go out and support this.

Seeing it a second time I appreciated Twohy's great direction much more, not only with pacing and editing and the way he frames the shots, but also with how good the performances are. He's underrated, I think, in how well he picks actors and directs them. This little ensemble of characters is very finely crafted. He's a niche filmmaker, but a great one.

I don't think I posted these interviews with Twohy yet...

Seen this tonight...It's a mixed bag.

In terms of Riddick's character...It makes him seem more of a bad-ass than Chronicles did...Not from an action POV but from an attitude POV. Although it did make him more vulnerable than previous movies from a physical POV which I didn't like.

The CGI is fairly decent for such a low budget...More for the planet than the creatures which were mixed at best...The poisonous main predators were good but Riddick's "pet" was not good...we're talking less believable than the wargs from LotR from TT which is 11 years old so that gives you an idea of how far behind in animation ability/technology it is.

As for the rest of the characters...a complete swing and a miss...they'd have been as well just having 11 clones of the same guy and 1 with t1ts cos they were all 1-dimensional and exactly the same...Even [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Johns' father who had a different motivation for capturing Riddick was no different from any of the rest of them. On that point it's the worst of the 3 movies...Pitch Black is the best because it has a varied group of characters, some likeable, some not...Some useful, some not...It meant you actually cared about most of them and whether they lived or died...Riddick was basically just Riddick and 11 versions of Toombs from Chronicles...All of them were arseholes...the only exception being the chickenshit God botherer who was completely superfluous to the story anyway.

I'm glad it veered away from the whole Necromongers business as that was never to my taste anyway so that, for me, is a plus point. Although I do hope to see "the guy with the ****ed up face" in any future instalments cos he seemed like a bit of a hard bastard.

The biggest problem is that it lacked any dramatic tension...Something which Pitch Black had loads of...

All things considered, even though I wasn't expecting it to be great, it was still pretty weak...below average

4/10
