I see little reason to see why Glorfindel or Ecthelion are far superior combatants than Beleg.

So? So too were a few of the Sons of Feanor yet Fingolfin is surely above them.

Not really, I kid. Turin likely surpassed Beleg, but if they fought earnestly, it would be very close I would imagine. Beleg is no pushover.
