I think it was as good as TTT was for the LOTR trilogy. The only difference between those 2 trilogies is that, the first Matrix was superior on it's own, I cant say the same for LOTR FOTR. So Matrix is headed in the Right Direction.
I do wish the movie was longer though. I hope the next is 3 hours. And if most of the crowd actually sat down they would have seen the trailer for part 3, and seen that they are going to be way more gun scenes again like the first one, part 2 is mostly fighting.
The weak points about this movie for ME was that I did not like the Kung Fu in this one. All of Neo fights scenes I THINK, seemed pretty weak. Morpheus and Trinity had good ones, but Neo they did it soft. Dont get me wrong, Im not against those CG stand in's for people within action, but I only appreaciate it when it looks GREAT!, or when it makes sense for it to be there like in TTT's Golem situation. Or like in Blade 2. Blade 2 still to this day has the best CG human stunt double scenes ever. Why? Because it blends in well. Further I did'nt like Neo's fights becuase they were'nt as raw as part one. Morpheus vs the agents, in part one right before he got captured, looked great, and painful. It looked like a struggle. By the time neo gets to part 2, he should be moving, at light speed OFTEN as he did in part one, when he first learned to move like an agent. Not once did they really use his super speed within fighting, which does'nt make much sense, since he flies around often at that speed. This was my only gripe. After seeing Blade 2, I expected the fighting in Matrix 2 to rival it, but it clearly did not, Perhaps Revolutions will. The ONLY other thing I missed was the HEAVY gun use. This movie hardly had any, especially in comparison to part one.
Other than that, I loved the philosophy, gotta see it again for this. I loved the Ending with Neo and Trinity, I really liked the French dude's role. I liked where Smith is going. And the architect is puzzling me.
Personally I would have done a MILLION things which this movie just did not, but that's just me. I also felt that the angle of the story involving ALL THOSE SLAVED HUMANS, was a bit neglected, and a little too much focus on Zion. Sure I know that they're still enslaved, but a nice reminder could have easily been done with a nice short cut scene showing the billion human filled hives.
I loved the last scene though.
10 stars.

flip, now that neo knows that he is "the one" his fight scenes are much much more fluid, as opposed to raw. just like at the very end of matrix 1, he fights much more fluidly and more in control. he knows that's going to happen, anticipates it, and counter attacks in the most efficient way possible.
as for why he doesn't lightning speed everyone, it would be the logical thing to do. just like it would be logical for superman to use his laser sight to kill all of his enemies, but he still doesn't. it adds more suspense, and drama. besides, there would be no cool fight scenes with neo in it if he went about lightning fast, it'd be over in a matter of seconds, if that.

Also 9though I have not seen the new one) the agents rarely use their lightning speed when fighting, so it is safe to assume that this takes some extra effort that makes it not worth it. They use high speed to move (sometimes) and dodge but most fighting from either Neo or Agents takes place at normal speed.

If anything Neo's Superman powers greatly lessen drama and suspense. Matrix I was great because we knew Neo could die, the fight with the agent in the subway and the bullet dodging in the lobby scene and skyscraper rooftop were so great because we knew if Neo made one wrong move he'd be toast.
Its no fun now that he's invincible and can stop bullets in mid-air. Now that he's the Jesus of the Matrix he can resurrect anyone he wants, no one is in danger in the Matrix anymore = boring. ZZZZZZZZZZ
well i think there is still a great bit of danger for them all. its just neo is always there at the right time. neo isnt invincible, remember in the lobby with the french dude, he stoped that sword with his hand, but it cut him and he bleed. plus what about outside the matrix (so we think) but he is still very vulnerable. wasnt it tense when they were attacked by the centinals, you didnt know how they were going to get out of that.

oh god! i don't want to have to type all that in again. delandric, go to the movie discussion area, and open up the "for those who have seen matrix 2" thread. me and baulderg2 put up some very huge posts with a lot of good ideas
turin, i agree with you. while he's super powerful now, he's only that powerful because he is going to need to be that strong in the 3rd movie. and there is still the chance that he can die, otherwise, why would the architect, french guy, and smith even try?
smith took it to the next level as well, by getting into the real world, and attempting to assisinate neo there.
very nice irony in that scene too. when we meet the kid that neo saved that is really annoying, he says to neo: "you saved me" neo says: "you saved yourself"
when smith is about to kill neo in the real world, the same kid yells his name and saves neo. neo inadvertantly saved himself from smith by saving that kid. another way to look at it, neo saved the kid from the matrix, and the kid saved neo from smith. still, very nice use of irony

Thta's a good question but I do know the Oracle is not the mother of the matrix becuase she says her self that she was a program that in a way what other no used programs they go in exile. I'm going to watch it agian just to make sure.

doesnt the architect say she is the mother of the matrix? then i guess perhaps he had no more use for her so she hid out in the matrix. also, people are fighting against the machines for freedom, but dont the machines realize that they are kind of imprissoned themselves? (maybe thats what Smith meant by Neo freed him) they have a purpose, they are bound to that purpose and once they become obsolete they are to return to the main frame to either be upgraded or eliminated. maybe thats what will happen in the next one, the machines revolt!!! go machines.

It was an excellent movie. The fight scenes were much better than the first. From the first movie, when Morpheus and the agent are fighting, just before he's captured, it looks like they forgot about gravity a couple of times. Also the first movie suffered from actors doing things like drawing their fist back as far as possible before punching, which keeps them from being as quick as they should be when fighting. Here the actors show much better form. It's still not as good as Bourn Identity, but a big improvement.
The CG effects, bullet time, and changing angles still managed to wow you after seeing them experimented with in the first. My only complaint is that film only has 24 fps, leaving high-speed motion and pans either a blurred mess or very choppy, which is mostly why the effects look bad. Hopefully someone will come out with a new format soon, with a better frame rate, since most movies are pushing film past its limits.
Unfortunately I had trouble following some of the dialog because people in the theater wouldn't stop talking. I couldn't do much either, since they were with me. Like the first one it posed some interesting philosophical questions. I think much of the movie's charm is that it leaves you with more questions than answers. I'd love to find a bootleg (too poor for more tickets and just wanna rewatch certain parts) but mostly it's broken files or copies of ice age or some Lord of the Rings movie. So much for Kazaa, WinMX and Gnutella.
Two thumbs up. Overall I thought the movie was pretty good. I enjoyed the movie more towards the end.
The thing I don't like about the Matrix movies is the concept that machines rely completely on humans for power and there is no alternative.
Yeah, what IS it with Ice Age posing as The Matrix? Not that I tried to download it but when I grabbed the trailer I noticed big film files pretending to be the Matrix but the files were blatantly called 'iceage.avi'. Duh!
