lel@ a "a bunch of mediocre solo films". nice opinion or do you think you speak for everyone now?
The weakest of them wasn't even that bad based on the general opinion.
And no one can argue they are rushing B v S. If anything, B v S and the beginning of a shared cinematic Universe is long overdue for DC after decades of Batman and Superman solo films. Wonder Woman's introduction to the big screen is also long overdue. I'm sure any other heroes introduced like Cyborg or Aquaman will only have very small roles in B v S.
As for the tactic of using B v S to jump into Justice League, that was the same tactic used to build up to the long running JL and JLU cartoons. And it worked well there.
Plus fact is flop or not we've had a Green Lantern movie. We can't expect a reboot /sequel of that now until after the character gains more popularity through Justice League. And who knows, we might also get Shazam before Justice League given what The Rock had been hinting at.
Also LMAO at judging everything through the critics reviews. Critics are clearly giving Marvel a free pass when they give IM2 and IM3 such a rave.
What Hollywood does next is decided by Box Office dollars and reception by the Fans and General Audience.
If it was decided by what critics think then we would have seen a sequel to Superman Returns long ago.
Warner Bros also gave us these two. The thing is is that WB's films are either too cliche and clownish or too dark and grim. They can't seem to find that balance Marvel has.

I don't know. Marvel embraces the "fun" a bit too much for my taste sometimes. Examples would be the whole Mandarin thing in IM3 and don't get me started on the end credit scene of GOTG.
But on the whole the Fun Action movie works for them. But I think DC have to do what works for them, which I think is Dark and Gritty. That's what worked with Batman, Watchmen and Man of Steel. They tried the Fun approach with Green Lantern and previously with Batman & Robin , but they just can't pull it off.

With the exception of Superman, there tone had worked for them. It just shouldn't be excessively dark and grim. Nolan's Batman films were the perfect balance. Snyder went too dull and dreary with his destruction porn of a movie.
It's not like Marvel can stop it: their fans and their Disney overlords won't stand for it. But I don't blame Marvel so much as critics treating everything Marvel movie like gold: leading to stuff like Thor 2 and, as you stated, IM3 doing as well as it has.
Dark and Gritty works but in moderation. Making MoS excessively dark, while personally enjoyable, didn't turn out as hoped in the general public. Now DC is on the road to making all their dark. Hopefully that turns out to be a positive.
There is nothing wrong with dark and gritty. Especially for characters like batman, punisher, etc.
The problem is making every hero like that, even though they have never been like that or just totally go against who they are or what the stand for.
It's like making a dark grim spiderman, flash, or Deadpool movie. It won't make any sense.
(grim/dark spiderman stories like kraven the hunter or venom/carnage could work though)
Also another thing that bothers me is that the dark knight trilogy was Good and in the final one Nolan even left it open for future films or to expand on it.
Dc/wb said F-that, this are non canon to MOS and to our universe we are building. They could have at least had that trilogy as a starting point to their universe. Now all they have as a starting point is a mediocre MOS movie

Yeah but Marvel's not doing any dark gritty movies (CA and CA2 were the closest). Because they've chosen a tone that's working for them. DC have to do the same, but use some common sense as well. Because obviously Shazam is something that can not be Dark and Gritty.
Actually I take that back. Marvel did make TIH a darker film, but clearly Marvel changed the Hulk info a more fun character for the Avengers ( which clearly worked well for Hulk and for Avengers).
I actually had forgotten that TIH had a darker tone to it. Got to rewatch it soon.
but it goes to show how many genres comic book moves can tap into.
AOU will have a darker tone to it from what has been hinted.
Antman will be a "Heist" movie, dr strange supermantural/acid trip type.
They all dont just all fit into all light hearted action movies or all grim/dark action thrillers. There are tons of ways to tackle each movie because every character is different , personality wise and situation wise.

i also heard a rumor that i hope isnt true that [SPOILER - highlight to read]: some events in AOU lead to Hulk/banner being on a space ship headed to outerspace. that lead him to meet up with the GOTG somehow.
hope it isnt true cause it sounds kinda dumb but i guess it could lead to a [SPOILER - highlight to read]: light planet hulk type story
