Some slight spoilers ahead..

I would actually probably rate this quite a bit higher than 78 - 80% as it is on RT. I think it deserves something in the 90s. Are the characters just there as plot devices? Yeah, they are basically, but they are just interesting enough for the visuals and action to take over and supply a really fun time. Sam Jackson creates a sort of villain, Hiddleston & Larson are vague romantic interests, John C Reilly is humor and charm + some emotion with his son he's never met, etc. John Goodman gets them to the Island and of course there's plenty of other lesser characters to get killed off. But it's actually an extremely fun, well crafted film. It felt a little slow to get started, but I think I'd ultimately give it about a 9/10 for what it is, which is a helluva fun Monster/adventure flick.

On another note...

I like the similarities between the Mud Demons in Riddick and the Skull Crawlers. Unless Kong is based on some earlier source material I think they owe a bit to Riddick. But of course it's an improved design, very dinosaur-like...

Either way this is going to be an epic battle.
Godzilla also has a massive advantage in durability. Kong by comparison was hurt by much less.

Kong was ko'd and burned by an explosion about as big as himself.

G tanked a 15 megaton explosion that created a near 5 mile wide fireball.

The durability difference is far above the size difference.

I compare better to a block of steel than kong compares to godzilla in durability.

Kong is going to need a massive power up no question. Still he was ****ing great in this film. He was strong, tough, fast, agile, skilled and resourceful in battle.

Yeah, Kong was just a kid in this movie, he's still growing.

Oh yeah for sure, i've never liked kong more than in this movie.

I enjoyed when he rescued the giant buffalo. That was natural altruism and it made me root for him.

Regarding his size...why would he still be growing though? We saw his parents' skeletons and they were no bigger than he is now.

So does his species keep growing even as adults? That would be interesting i guess.

All I know is that Hank said he's still growing and that's good enough for me.

I dont doubt that he's growing.

Its just that calling him a 'kid' is not an accurate label since his parents were the same size.

Also, unless something drastic happens either in power up or pis he wont have the strength to hurt him without majorly hurting himself. Kong was very low in durability.

Would be like me punching a steel wall.
I am speculating he will still be quicker than Godzilla by his film.

If Kong knocks a building into Godzilla or throws a projectile it's going to hurt him. Based off how these guys stack up they can definitely hurt the other. Godzillas resistance to normal gunfire won't really mart up against Kong. We saw the other Mutos damage him.

Trust in Kong. He's the king now.

Lets bet on the outcome. Who comes off looking better. My pick is Kong you stick with the Japanese crowd and your idiotic lizard.
