Different combat mechanics don't make it different, either.
The way you explore the environment, the way the encounters happen organically instead of locked in arena battle set pieces, the boss battles having an almost puzzle element to them, the importance of movement and defense, the general look/feel of the thing...
Sure, there's differences, but it sure feels more akin to Souls then DmC or God of War did. Those are pure "Arena brawlers", where you can avoid a good amount of encounters and just enjoy exploring the enviro's however you want in NG..

You can't explore the environment in NGB like you can Dark Souls, Dark Souls bosses don't tend to have puzzle elements to them (I can't really recall NG having those either though...), importance of movement and defense is a part of basically every third person action game, and the games don't look or feel the same at all IMHO.
God of War was heavily offense into button prompt finishers.
Ninja Gaiden leaned towards block/avoid, learn patterns, counter.
So in that respect, at least, they're similar. You need to learn to
keep your guard up, and need to study your enemies more.

Punch-Out or Streets of Rage. Most of these brawler games lean towards one or the other.
If you think about it, Dark Souls is like an evolution to punch out, what with the "learn/anticipate/avoid/counter" mechanics. You wait for openings, pounce, do your combos/counter, finer/repeat. The same as God Hand, or Infinity Blade.
Something like DmC, yeah, you need to be aware of your surroundings, but you can combo boards of guys into next week like you can't do in Souls.

Far as I know, they have remakes in Sigma 1 and 2. Same thing as Black, minor differences.

Sigma has an extra boss or two, a new weapon, and it has three stages with Sonya. And upgrades visuals (Mainly textures, though it's a downgrade in some ways as a few effects like this nifty ghost effect when you do air attacks were cut)
Think of it as Resident Evil 4, and I'm playing the GameCube original, while you'd have the next gen remaster and all added content.
Word of warning if you get it: The camera is reversed. Left pans the camera right, down moves it up. Thankfully, there's a trigger that auto-recenters behind your position, which you WILL want to use all the time, like a jump
button.
You get used to it.

You can't in the Xbox original. The remake may have corrected this.
Or, perhaps you can edit the controls in console profile, as you could in the 360 (Have not tested this on backwards compatible Xbox games, but the PS3 wouldn't have this issue as it's not emulating an older game.)

Makes me want to play Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, which uses the same style.

What upcoming games are you guys looking forward the most? There are a lot of fan favorites coming back in this last third of the year and the next one.
That was a great game, I wish they'd put it on PC too.

Playing No Man’s Sky. Gotta say, having a blast. The new update really fixed up the game’s mechanics and I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface yet.
