I hope that statement about Gohan makes the Piccolo powerup more significant than I originally thought then.
Was late to seeing about it but in the Super manga, was revealed that Bardock in the past made a wish with the dragon balls for his sons to end up thriving. That mightve made Raditz live longer than he otherwise wouldve, but for Goku, it explains everything while simultaneously taking away what made him special. Oh, Toyotaro.
Gohan being the strongest again would be contrived on the fact he doesn't have god ki, but then again they devalued god ki earlier on anyway. It merely just gave a new power ceiling for Goku and Vegeta, though the other Z-fighters could've used that too, but they wouldn't get marketable new forms from it, so why bother I guess.
It may just be that Toriyama is ignoring those characters/arcs in regards to the upcoming movie. He knows not every fan follows the manga too and as such would disregard those arcs in the context of a new film.
Did not find anything about him explicitly calling Moro or Granolah non-canon though. Source? Out as touch as Tori is, even I find it hard to believe he would have Toyotaro write a bunch of stories and waste the time of fans who engage in that stuff by making it non-canon. Remember too, Super has basically two different continuities because of the lack of planning in part.
Maybe Toriyama is arrogant enough though to consider anything not made by him (Toyotaro or anyone else) not canon. If that is the case, then he lost a certain respect I had for him. Regardless of the quality of the Moro arc and such, you dont just devalue the work of your protege like that. That aint right.

I saw something about a variation of Cell (but not specifically Cell himself) being teased or something; basically a Cell knockoff.
They're trying to get the attention of Cell fans with this but without actually delivering him. Since this movie is in CG and not traditional 2D animation, Cell's spots would've been a non-issue, but it seems they basically did a bait and switch here. Not too surprised tbh.
I mean, Androids as villains. Gohan is the main character. Red Ribbon army coming back. A giant machine in a basement looking area like where Cell was born is in one of the ads for it.
It would be more of a bait and switch if there wasn't something Cell-like that absorbs Gamma 1 & 2 to be in a stronger form. Because it would make no sense for it to be Cell himself. Just like Gamma 1 and 2 are not 17 and 18.

Maybe like how Kale was sort of a foreshadowing leadup to Broly returning, this Cell wannabe will serve the same purpose before the actual Cell somehow returns later?
Nah. Am convinced Tori just hates Cell. Also, is it true that one of the Shenron wishes was Bulma wanting a bigger ass? Characters making stupid wishes is nothing new, but wow. Would be nice if the shadow dragons idea came back at some point to punish the overuse of wishes.
