Nope, it's part of his character for specific writers, not for every writer, which is the point. So writers haven't written them that way, and they care just as much canon weight as the ones that have. You can't pick and choose which writers you feel right more canon superman stories... doesn't work that way. DC embedded their writers the ability to write canon stories about superman, and that's exactly what they have done. No amount of wishing every writer wrote him that way changes that.
Was it RAO who said it was 75/25 % good showings to bad showings, therefore the good shows are what counts? Craziest argument I've ever heard. Might have the wrong Superman zealot, though.
As for an alternate Earth Silver Age, where that came from- those Supermen also lost to Muhammad Ali and some other celebrities and stuff, so it's not too much of a surprise.

You want him to have it both ways, all powerful but righteous and brave without sacrifice. Have you come with an example of Thanos ever going to blow for blow with a Skyfather or Abstract level character and winning without an outside power source yet?
