It turned out, the direction the Jedi were taking wasn't the real threat at all- the Supreme Chancellor being a Sith was. Pushing the Jedi in that direction to cause internal clashes and defectors like Pong and Barriss was *part* of the plan.

Krell understood that a new power was going to rise in the Republic's place, and decided to get on the train of the guys that were going to win.
Barriss kinda just understood that the Jedi weren't protectors of the peace anymore and threw a hissy fit about it.
